Hello from Oregon!

Hi there! I'm Jeepgirl from the Portland area of Oregon. I started building model cars when I was young. I wish I still had some of them (if for no other reason than to resurrect them from their youthful doom). I just finished my first Model in almost 20 years. A MPC Model kit #785 WWII Military Jeep that turned out okay. I realized during that build that there was so much I could do to improve my build skills, as well as a lot of realizations of things that I was just plain doing wrong. I didn't do nearly the research that I should, nor taking the time to sand, and prime...etc.

I started last week on a Revell 2003 Jeep Rubicon kit. I made the rookie mistake of getting overly excited and got paint on the body before I had a chance to read through some Forums and learn some things. Now I am slowing down, and will likely end up stripping the body of its paint, (luckily just Testors metallic black) and do it the right way. I am taking my time with the rest of the parts though, sanding the mold seams, ejection spots, filling and sanding some more.

Time to dig out the brake fluid and get the paint off of the body. Salvage what I can, and sand, prime, and paint it the right way. This jeep is a funny thing, there are a lot of details that wouldn't be the normal body paint color. The diamond plate on the rear gate, the visors etc. Which are all going to need a lot of extra attention.

Welcome to the forum Amanda! You are a rarity (in a good way) in the modeling community.

Sounds like you have a good plan of attack the 2nd time around on your Jeep. Look up bare metal foil for your diamond plate issue.

Have fun building! Any of us would be happy to help with any questions you might have. :)

I do like jeeps, I also enjoy the 20's and 30's of the automotive world. I have always dreamed of having that 1:1 34' ford pickup. Maybe someday. Am I the only one that sees more kits and wants to build them when you've only just begun a different kit.

Thanks guys ;) for the great welcome. I took some pics of the build progress on the 03' rubicon this evening and will start a in progress thread in the appropriate forum spot and get the pics up.
