What a shame!

I can see your arguments about growing up around them and "thinking" they are cool. But out of the countless car shows and meets I've gone to, they're very rarely any restored 4 door cars there. Street Rods, yes there are some. Then you get into the 50's and up cars. It's usually a beat to hell 4 door that someone thinks is a prize or a old original grandma car that has been unmolested. But then again, they are far few and between. It's the popular 2 doors that everyone is flocking around. Not the family/grandparents 4 door car. I've heard from may guys in there late 50's and well into their 60's saying how taboo 4 doors where when growing up and in the car culture of "the day". They are just a family car... It is true that that they are on the cheaper end of the scale, cause they are not that desirable and people who want an older car will go after them. Cause that's all they can afford. Does that turn it into cool cause they are cheaper and more undesirable? I've noticed on here and some other forums what I call "The politically correct car movement". Where no matter what one drives and how they mod it they are accepted as a car enthusiast. And everyone should be happy and skip through a field of flowers. I'm sorry, but I refuse to be part of a group that goes to Walmart and puts on cheap sticky chrome vents and calls themselves a car guy. That is just a basic example of one.

Too right, mate.

I guess I was brought up differently. I feel that no matter what kind of car it is, if someone is willing to put time and effort into modding it / restoring it, it's deserving of respect. You don't have to LIKE it, but there's no reason to cut someone down for their taste or for buying and working on what they can afford.

Having a cool car isn't about making YOU like my car, it's about me going out and enjoying it, be it at a car show or a race track or just cruising around town. If you're building a car to make others like it, you're doing it for the wrong reasons.

James, you are forgetting the that its all about whats trendy and what will make "you" cool to everyone else, so we are wrong, and they are right, only " certain cars" are worth restoring if they are what the trend says so .

So, if I feel that restoring a four door car is "worth my time, and my money", I am wrong? and its not?, becasue only two door cars are worth my time and money?, am I understanding this correctly ?

Exactly. When ever school lets out at 3:30 and the parking lot fills with the sounds of straight pipes and rice pots I don't dog on them. I may not enjoy their cars but I respect them for taking pride in their cars and making it their own.

I've been goin to the Detroit AutoRama for quite some time now, and THEY seem to be haveing more and more 4 drs as of late. The real radical cars are still 2dr coupes an such, but DOWNSTAIRS, where the REAL cars are, they got a BUNCH of 'em. The fit all the good engine stuff and wheels and they DO LOOK GOOD even if they got 2 extra doors! If i could find a nice 67 Lincoln 4dr convert like my Moms.Id have that rascal in a hot flash!!!!

Four doors are great for lots of things...

Like...hmmm... Errrr.... Wait I kno- never mind... Hang on.... Ah! I got it... They're great for making tin cans out of! And target practice!

You can't do the Chinese Fire Drill (old school car guys will know what I'm talking about) in a 2 door car, a 4 door is a requirement to do it right.

Aww man I love doing those. I need to get some buddies of mine together at my place now to practice.

It wasn't pretty, especially since we were in an '85 Escort, and 3 of the people in the car (Myself, Rudnicke, and Foster) are not exactly small guys.

Big guys, small car, did you have to remove the front seat to drive

It's funny how trends come and go. I have always been a longroof fan even before it was "cool". As of the last couple of years my wagons have become popular with people. Most shows around here have endless rows of muscle cars. I LOVE them as much as any guy dose but when I pull in my wagons, people stop what they are doing, come over, look and start going back to their youth. Mind you my '78 Country Squire is all original from paint work to the 8 track inside with 252k original miles clocked on.

My two door 1976 Monte Carlo in black pulls in all ages and backrounds of people to stop and look at the coupe. People always want to talk about it.

No matter the doors, people have all different reasoning's for the love and appreciation for cars in general. Letting that four door rot away is a shame, once it is gone it will only be remembered in the pages of history and the people that once owned them.
