MCM Regular (3/6)

  1. The Monogram 85 Fiero is another kit that Revell could update to the fastback gt to get some more milage out of the tool. The tool could be modified by removing metal from the cavity so it should be easily doable. Gives us a new kit for a relativly small price.
  2. I saved an AWD astro van after the 4.3 went with the intent of cloning a Typhoon. I believe the original used a 2dr 2wd chassis but its not important now. It was hard to find a good 2dr S10 so the project died.
  3. I have wondered why Revell does not tool up a first series jimmy based on the great Syclone kit , or the waverider or current S10 kit. They could have a Typhoon, forestry Post office, police , firechief etc vehicles.
  4. No problem and I may have come off as too critical. I am an old fart also,70 years old. I am grateful for the vintage kits that are being reproduced as I missed out on them the first time around. I also appreciate the many new tools with their increased parts count and improved detail. Foreign kits that are curbsides annoy me more than a lack of foil scripts in domestic kits, but I still buy many. I have been building since the 1964 Bonneville at least and can handle most processes. All that said, I wouldn't mind paying extra for more details like scripts but thats me. I just think it would be nice to have the scripts but it is way down on my wish list. But for every Revell Mustang there is a Revell Camaro, Fox Mustang and Barracuda but that's another story Good dialoque on your part.
  5. I buy almost every kit that comes out by the domestic manufacturers and many made by foreign companies. Not having foil scripts never has never been nor will ever be a deal breaker, I just said I was envious. I don't see how innovation is continuing forward with car models . Innovation perhaps in the various processes in the manufacture of kits but at the end of the day when you open the box it is still the same as a kit made in the sixties. As I said I buy almost every kit that comes out and I am glad for the increased detail, variety of kits and the retro kits. As for added cost , I have 2 Monogram 24 scale El Caminos where almost half the decal sheet has foil decals (not scripts) and the price sticker is the same as other Monogram kits of the same era. I know the many pros and cons in this post but I'll leave that to everyone here.
  6. Downloaded and opened the PDF with no trouble. Glanced through the file but didn't see where he sourced a 1 12 scale C4 Corvette. I was not aware of any.
  7. I am envious of the SciFi kit builders. They get gold and chrome foil decals and we get to try and foil the scripts that are stuck on the sides of most manufacturers car bodies.
  8. Slotto sure did a nice build and the front emblems are really done well. I bought 3 when they were reissued. They all have a sink mark in the same place, front left corner, starting smack dab in the middle of the flag and extending to the boomerang shaped character line. It's too bad because they stand proud enough to foil and detail. Eventually I will foil cast a replacement using the other side which is fine.
  9. It's plain horrible. I don't think there is any part that is any way accurate. This part is from memory as the kit is in storage but it was originally motorized and the suspension is compromised. You can see from the photos the engine parts are bad. Seats might be nice. Good for a collector who will never open the box.
  10. So AMC is responsible for the doors on my Sunfire freezing shut every time we get melting snow or freezing rain. I keep a spatula handy for prying between the door frame and the weather stripping.
  11. I actually had a friend who took his new, blue 1969 Judge and had it painted a hot pink colour that his girlfriend chose.
  12. Yes, it's too bad it is molded with the block and if I remember correctly, the pan had such a draft angle that I think I ran out of material trying to level it. It almost looked like a core shift. I forgot about the diff cover and never thought about the wheel pattern at the time. The oilpan is a road race item so its funny it is on a drag race engine. I want to look at the engine again to kitbash with various Monogram Corvettes to make some Greenwood IMSA cars.
