krishna.iskandana Posted February 5, 2010 Share Posted February 5, 2010 Hi again, It was on February 1950 when volkswagen decided to produce the type 2 after the great success of the type 1 (the beetle ), so I would like to dedicate this post ( and the next following posts ) to celebrate the 60 years of volkswagen type 2 which has made its way in our history. This is a 1963 vw type 2 bus from hasegawa, painted with the combination of TS 18 Metallic Red and TS 26 pure white. I lowered the ride heights ( as usual) and I really wanted to keep the original wheels for this one but I couldn't stand the look of it because I thought that the original tyres were too "skinny". so I made a little modification using unused wheels ( I cut the centre part and put the original wheel into it) and tyres. ScrappyJ Posted February 5, 2010 Share Posted February 5, 2010 Reminds me a little of the one Chip Foose did on Overhaulin. Among many other slight modifications, he added two more of the small windows on the roof(so it ended up being 5 on each side). I can't remember if it had the corner window at the rear or not, so don't know if it made it a 23 window from a 21 window, or a 25 window from a 23 window. Eitherway, nice job. There are at least three other VW Busses in the works by various builders on this forum, but I think you're the first to finins one. Yours looks really good. Lots of shiney detail going on with it. I understand that the Revell kit that I and most of the others are building is a re-release of the Hasagawa kit. The doors and rear hatch on the Revell kit are pre-cut and could be easily opened, but there's really no interior to speak of, so why bother unless you're willing to build one. Thanks for your comment, actually this is the first issue of the type 2 bus from hasegawa, so the doors dont open, the later one ( which doors can be opened and with additional surfboards) is more expensive so I didnt choose that one.
