MY 68 BUICK SKYLARK/SPECIAL

Recommended Posts

at one time, i owned two 68 buick specials/skylarks. one four door and one two door. the four door was beautiful the interior was perfect, as was the paintjob and i actually won trophies with it at car shows! i loved this car, i honestly did.

i drove it for four years before buying somthing newer, and leaving it parked by my buddies garage, at the same time i also had a two door skylark, and it was also sitting next to my buddies garage, one day he told me, You have to move those cars", "i cant have them sitting here.........so another friend has a cow farm and said i could put them there for storage..........ok cool.

in the meantime, i had sold the four door, so i just had the two door left. it neede alot of work, but it was NOT beyond repair. she needed a driver door skin, and quarter panel. the interior was perfect....so i thought, "ok, ill let it sit there until i can get rolling on it.

11 years have rolled by now.............i had someone interested in buying the car for parts.....so it was pretty much sold! until i went and looked at it! LOL

heres what she looks like now after sitting under the powerlines and acting as a scratching post for the cows for over a decade~

I HONESTLY WANTED TO CRY!!!

OH MY GOD! MISSING INTERIOR, DRIVERS DOOR AND FENDER, AND THE REAR BUMPER IS DESTROYED.......I WAS WELLING UP WITH TEARS LOL. OI NEVER THOUGHT IT WAS GONNA BE THAT BAD........THE ENGINE AND TRANNY ARE GONE AS WELL............AND IT WAS A POWERGLIDE TRANNY TO BOOT!

THERE IS NOTHING LEFT OF HER........TOTALLY BEYOND REPAIR NOW! THE HOOD FENDER, GRILLE AND RED SUPPORT ARE ALSO MISSING........BUMMER!

I HONESTLY LOVED THESE CARS, I WASNT GONNA RESTORE IT, BUT THE GUY WHO WANTED WAS PLANNING ON IT......I APOLOGIED TO HIM A BILLION TIMES...

CHECK OUT WHAT IS SITTING RIGHT NEXT TO IT!!

how cool is that?

Bryan.... My favorite ever owned car seen a similar death it was a 75 Pontiac Trans Am rust free Texas car with a 0.30 over 400ci,ram air heads and exhaust manifolds, huge cam,160mph speedometer, slap stick shifter,373 posi...I loved that car. After my accident it had to be sold to pay on bills...the guy that got it was drag racing on the street and blew the engine up catching it on fire gutted the car from the dash forward...my heart sank...maybe someday Ill find a model/promo of one to make like mine was?

Bryan and Mark,

I can relate to your story's. My avatar is the third 66 442 I ever owned but the real favorite was my 1st. Bought new in 66. redid the Heads, wild cam , headers , 4spd linkage revamped for shorter throws, carb and dist mods and a 4:33 Posi .. Painted it Pontiac Bright Blue with Black Vynl Top. Did a lot of street racing with it and overall one h-- of a lot of fun in that car..

Sold it to a guy in Illinois ( where i'm form ) , a couple months later I saw him again and he told me he went to Wisconsin , where his family had a home up there , and blew the motor in a street race-- even though he won...

Lost touch with him and never had the foresight back then to keep any vin numbers or any copies of paper work on the car, for current day searches.. ( you always here of people finding there old cars ) but with out any paper trail it is next to imposable .

But to this day I wonder what happened to the ole 442, if it some how made it to today or if its recycled into some part for one of today's cars... I Do have a 66 442 model to turn into a tribute , a project for a latter day....

Thanks for letting me bend your ear... Tom B) B)

Tom...that stinks man...we can become very attached to our cars/babies...I was and would have never ever sold it but was in a really bad place with the huge bills from my accident and was trying to see if I could save our house but it did not matter we lost it anyway. I really hope to find a model of a 75 TA someday that can be restored so I can have something to remember her by.

  • 2 weeks later...

That is one of my favorite cars ever. I had a 69 Special DeLuxe, and my Grandfather had when new a 69 Skylark Custom. Both 350 equipped. I would never have left mine unseen for over 10 years. Just sayin'. Too bad about the car though. Not really many of them left as Chevelles and Cutlasses and GTOs found more favor with the restorers and collectors.
