Revell Germany VW Beetle 1500 (Limousine and Cabriolet)

What year is the sedan supposed to be? Appears to have the early pre-68 Esuropean bumpers and tail light, but has a post-68 engine cover. The hood also appears to be a '68....but the front turn signals are clearly early '60's. Huh?

The cabrio has similar issues with the front turn signals. Anybody know?

Its nice to see the cabrio... but don't we already have a decent hard top Beetle available from Tamiya?

Tamiya's is a '67 1300. Revell's is a '68 1500. Revell aren't so much competing head-to-head as they are filling in gaps. See their recent new-tool Mini as another example. Thiers is a 998, Tamiya's is a 1275S.

Forgive my ignorance, but what is the difference other than the badging? Is the body of the 67 and 68 the same?

Tamiya's is a 66, as is their Karmann Ghia.

If you are not into VW's they are all the same, if you know them every year is differant.

'67 engine cover is a one-year stamping. It's in between the long pointed early models and the later short lids(to clear the required large bumpers) of the '68 & later. The doors also were one year only as the had raised pads under the door handles, which were one year only items too. Throw in the later fenders with the early bumpers and it IS unique.

I owned a '67 Cal-Look back in the day..... Sweet car.
