Getting rid of swirls

Recommended Posts

Okay, I'm sure this has been asked a thousand times, but I can't find an answer.

How do I get the swirls out of my paint. They don't show on metallic colours, but on my Hertz SVO, I'm all swirly on the hood.

Any ideas?

I could really, really use the help!

Thanks, guys!

I have used the Novus on test pieces; the Novus seems to leave more scratches than the Tamiya compounds.

I think the main thing that's giving me grief is the cloth: what do I use to apply and remove the Novus or Tamiya stuff?

A good carnuba just may remove any haze left by polish. I like to use micro fiber towels...cut up in to small pieces. I use one for Novus No.1 and put it directly in front of my bottle, one for Novus No. 2, and so on so as not to contaminate my last polshing cloth. I try to get progressively lighter with my touch and let the compound do the work.

Meguiars make Scratch X2.0.

Turtle makes Scratch and Swirl remover.

I have both here and either will remove even the finest of swirl marks when applied with a decent quality micro fibre cloth
