I'll definitely be watching this one, I love a good sleeper conversion! :( By the way, Jim, I think I have you beat in the "Longest Project" department! I have a Western Star that I bought for a friend to work on while he was recovering from knee surgery in 2000. He worked on it some, then it sat in the box in his basement until about 3 years ago, I finally begged him long enough to let me finish it for him. The cab has been in Lake Brake stripping for most of those 3 years! I also have a Can Do wrecker I've been working on for almost ten years now! B)

LOL I guess you do have me beat there then LOL. And I thought anything after afew years for me was long enough but dang hearing you on your friends and your project really takes the cake though. Are you trying to set some kind of record?:huh::blink:

Maybe! Of course, those are just my stalled truck builds, too. I have a 34 Ford I first started before the turn of the century!

More coming later on today because the setting on the site will not let me post any more photos (rolls eyes) right now..

That's because I think 10 pics (which was what you posted :) ) is the limit per post. Just post them in a separate post! :)

If you would bother to read the post above that one you realize that they are same wheels I posted. Sourkraut is one of the US dealers for KFS.

I believe he did bother to read it, because if you look back and reread page 1, he replied to your post!

Yes, Jim, throw that Squadron junk away!!! I ruined an Italeri Freightliner FLD 120 using the green junk, I was trying to make a one piece sleeper and cab like a truck I drove, and it warped the front sleeper wall so badly the kit is just parts! I have never used any of their junk putty again. I've been using Bondo Glazing and Spot putty with very good results, and it does very well with smaller areas where you don't need to mix a lot of regular Bondo. I used it on the roof of my Ford's sleeper, along with regular Bondo, and have not had any ghosting issues.

I suspect the corrosion between lug nuts and wheels may be due to galvanic corrosion. This happens when two dissimilar metals are brought into intimate contact with each other. There's really nothing you can do about it.

Regarding the lug nut size, Full scale lug nuts measure 33mm across the flats. This is 0.054-inches in 1/24 scale. It appears KFS uses 00-90 bolts and nuts. These measure 0.078-inches across the flats. You may eliminate the corrosion by using 0.060-inch styrene hexagonal strip (Plastruct and Evergreen offer this) salami-sliced to appropriate length.

I don't recommend using superglue on aluminum since a white, crusty substance named "bloom" can appear later, just as the corrosion did on your wheels. Probably best to use Epoxy.

Bryan, the common size lug nuts on trucks are the 33mm, but they are the flanged style lug nuts. The style on the KFS wheels aren't flange style, and the common size for the non flanged lug nuts is usually 1 1/2 inches.

Well guys, I made a slight booboo here LOL with the doors location.. after looking at the real truck I notice the doors was not at the front but rather the other way around oops! LOL

So I took and chop the sides of the sleeper and are relocating the side panels and the doors father back but just switching the cut panels around. LOL

The roof and roof sides still need sanded down yet. I will get some photos soon and post them up.

OOPS! I thought something seemed out of place, but I just couldn't put my finger on it! :D It just stinks to have to redo things, it just adds time to the build. I found that out the hard way when I had to redo my big custom sleeper after I got mad at it and threw it across my desk. It took an extra week to repair it!

Guys, just a heads up about rims, if you order any watch out for there lug nuts and lugs. I just got done emailing my friend Mark about his. I just notice that two of his rims we assembled like a month ago or alittle over that had rusted :) . I tried to get the lug nuts off but they are I think rusted togother it feels like. here is a photo of one rim that I had removed the tires from.

I told my friend it was he that will half to get a hold of the company about this and not me. I also gave him the link that I seen from one of the items Romell had for hardware and strews for on models.. maybe Mark will be going with them for the hardware.. I don't know. But this is shocking though about the lug nuts.

the rims are okay, it's just the lug nuts and lug screws that I notice has the issue or starting to. The black thing on the rim is a piece from the top of the one screw.

Hey Jim,

The following link has great stuff, and the tools to mount all the nuts and bolts. They are stainless (no rust) and brass, and nickel plated brass (no rust again). I use their stuff all the time and the tools to work with them are a must. My hands are too big for that small stuff.

let me phrase it another way then, howard from kfs has never heard of this problem, i have never had this problem or anybody else that has used this item has had this problem. seems as though you are the only one with this problem, so maybe the problem is something you or your friend done while installing them. that was my reason for the "user" phrase.

i meant nothing negative by it, i would trace your steps back and see if you may have done someting different on some but not the others. i would like to know what could have caused this also so i can make sure it doesn't happen on my future builds. if you still feel resentment toward me then so be it, join the club :blink:
