A little help with my new 'Cuda please...

Recommended Posts

I'd like to build up the new S&M Pro Stock Barracuda kit into a super stocker using the hood and scoop from the sister kit. Something like the Ramchargers SS/DA shown on Ratnasty's recent post in the Aftermaket forum.

I understand the class designations but I am having trouble finding information regarding general super stock rules from the early '70's.

I am curious about things like:

- headers and exhaust - I think headers are OK but can they be open or must they be routed through the stock exhaust?

- interior - is a back seat required?

- type of roll cage required?

- rear tire max. width?

- any engine mods allowed?

- etc.

If anyone can point me in the right direction, it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Headers OK, rulebook says they're to be routed through the exhaust, but doesn't look like that was enforced.

Intake would have be a "stock type". So on the HEMI it would need to be a 2 x 4 bbl. The Edelbrock "Rat Roaster" seems to have been a popular choice.

Still had to have a back seat, I don't think roll bars were mandatory until 75, but would have been recommended I'm sure.

Tires in Super Stock were pretty much whatever you could make fit without radical changes to the wheel wells. 30"+ wasn't unheard of.

Some good info here - http://board.moparts.org/ubbthreads/showflat.php?Cat=0&Number=6344980&page=6&fpart=all&vc=1 - I posted it in the review thread, but here it is again in case anybody missed it. Some dead picture links, but still lots of good ones.

I plan on attempting this car or something very close to it. Gotta love that luggage rack, anything to get some weight over the rear tires!

Ken,

Everyone here gave you great information! NHRA rule books can be had all day long for any year which is a good place to start. I am always on the prowl for old car magazines (many of which I had and now reside in a landfill site) I try to buy lots of the era, it's like buying a box of chocolates, but I always find something interesting. If I'm trying to narrow down a particular car, I google that car say Sox & Martin and you will get images and obviously you will see pictures for the car. What I look for there is images of magazine covers with that car, with that information I look to see if I can find that magazine for sale. Typically great reference material.

Having Raced in that era. Most SS cars ran a roll hoop and I never saw or heard (sound) anyone run through the exhaust.
