Nitrozilla Posted September 6, 2011 Share Posted September 6, 2011 As with most of Jungle's runs, this has been a wild ride. Right out of the gate, this was supposed to be a Hawaiian build. I'd modified the wheel wells, lowered the rear end stance, (my choice and the cause of numerous fixes, lol), and widened the distance between holes in the grill for the nose braces to clear the ends of the Hawaiian island decal. Then, the Money Fairy thumped me with her magic wand and I could suddenly afford some Slixx decals. While researching and finding some JJ "what if's", I decided that what was needed was an all out tribute. Next time will somebody please stop me? I take that back because now I can start on the hauler. To all of you who were so kind and supportive during the build, I thank you from the bottom on my Nitro tank. And now, on the the pics. I'll be glad to field any questions and queries that fit within the newly, 50 caliber enforced, established rules of prudence and decorum. Yes, I just saw the raggedy hole for the left parachute release line. Also I am aware of a slight misalignment on the right side canard. Both easily fixable. Back in the olden days of drag racing, the true innovators were looking for anything that would give the rear end downforce. That's why they went to altered wheelbases to begin with. The canard was one of those attempts. I decided to add a canard to the canard from Competition Resins. Sorry if it looks out of place, but that's the way it was. I'd be afraid to be around one of those cars with the "canards", looks like a medival device to remove your feet at the ankles. They have been outlawed haven't they? Dragracer Posted September 7, 2011 Share Posted September 7, 2011 The Tribute car looks excellent Joe, to Scale-Master, yes the canards were banned by the NHRA in the early to mid 70's, F/C & T/F used them for awhile, they were banned because the NHRA deemed them a safety hazard, if a car got crossed-up (which they were & are still proned to do)the NHRA worried about the canards getting stuck in the guard-rail & flipping the car. And they weren't only run on the lower part of the chassis, some F/C's ran them through the rear roof portion of the car, Ron O'Donnells "Big Noise from Illinois" Plymouth 'Cuda ran them there for awhile. I'm not sure about the rounded M. I have never been a slave to that sort of thing. I went with what looked right for the theme of the build. It was just another way of emphasizing a fictional change of engine and body, Guess I was trying too hard to get my point across. As for the canards, absolutely. They had to be a pain to avoid in the pits. My guess as to their demise? I think bigger spoilers or no noticeable advantage on the run or in the time slips. The chute lines are white "wrapping wire" from Radio Shack. It comes in red, white and blue. Salute !! They've been washed, then dry brushed with Tamiya Dark Grey (in the "body on" pics). The tags came with the Hawaiian decals. They are also on some of the Slixx contingency sheets. I used thin plastic cut to the shape of the decal, with wire (also red wrapping wire) super glued to the back. Paint it red, put on the decal, flatten the gloss with Liquitex Matte Varnish (my new favorite thing). Drill a hole as close to the top of the chute as feasible and insert wire. You want it high otherwise, they tag the ground when you put up the body. Thanx for clearing that up Richard. Now I've been educated. I'm very pleased to see that you don't appear to be offended by the negative, disrespectful comments early on in this thread. It's not our place to declare that we don't like a model or any aspect of it, at least not in the manner that the statement was delivered. We, as viewers of your build, don't have that right. I especially like the black trim around the windows. And you....... no offense and i dont know if you made them or they came in that kit, but those little wings on the sides in front of the rear tires look stupid. I'm sure they possibly serve some purpose but to me they just look idiotic should probably ask some questions or do some research before you stick your foot in your mouth!
