large scale hot rod

I guess I might as well make my first post a big one (1/4 scale). Here are some photos of my almost finished model. I still have a few parts and weathering to do.

Most techniques have been used in this one: styrene sheet (body), 3D printing (wheels and rear tire walls), and steel and alloy for the frame and suspension.

I started off building 25th scale when I was about 8 years old and have been building models ever since.

Thank you all for the comments, it makes it worthwhile when people appreciate your work.

@ Mr.1/16th, Almost all of the 1/4 scale parts had to be scratch built.

The engine block is from the Visible V8 kit with a few additions like head bolts and details in the casting.

I doctored a carburetor , molded, and cast 6 off. Venturis are made from plastic wine glass stems. The wheels and tires

are a combination of turned masters, 3D modeling and printing, and mold-cast techniques.

Here are a few construction photos.

This is quite a change from the 25mm long hot rods I used to build up from the "free toys" in corn flakes packets.

@ Old Sprinter, where to put it? When I finish the 1/4 scale pin up girl to go with it, I will build a glass case to display it .

I have a place to put it but I think I won't build anymore big ones......like a 1/4 scale top fuel car. :)

  • 1 year later...

The welding bead & heat stain detail on the header tubes is most impressive.

Care to share your technique?

In my head, I can hear that motor choppy idleing & barking in my ear.

Is this a steel frame car, as well? B)
