memory lane.........1/8 style

just thought i'd post some of my old builds. some of you might enjoy looking at them.

my first 1/8 build. some of the highlights were:

tig welded stainless tubing chassis

my first billet aluminum engine, bell housing and lenco transmission.

my own billet aluminum wheels

unfortunately, this car did use R.C. tires.

Of course it's magnificent work Dave-but-what besides the tires might you have done differently or 'better'?

I always look back on my past work and say, 'yeah, I should / could have done such and such...'

mark, thank you. i'm sure you could pick up metalworking in no time. if you ever have the chance, you should. it will change your life.

cato, i learned soooooo much on this build it wasn't even funny.

first, i learned that stainless steel is NOT something you want to build a 1/8 scale model chassis in.

the second thing i learned was, the time investment in scratch building at this level is INCREDIBLY high. these projects take literally years to produce.

third thing i learned was, the measure twice, cut once thing..........is WAY true.

last, build what you love............cause you're gonna be doin' for a while!!!!!!! hehe.

every build for me is a transition into the next. i always try to do something i haven't done on the last model to push myself into that "uncomfortable" zone.

hopefully, i'm getting better.

here's my third build. nostalgia AA/FA. i love the older stuff but, with a modern flavor!

417 donovan with all of the modern trimmings. i'm really quite proud of this engine. i spent months researching and gathering data and dimensions so i could build a "pretty close" example. this has to be one of my all time favorite motors!!!!

scratched B&j trans and scratched strange top loader rear

billet wheels

brass chassis.

this build i tried to take my detailing of the wiring , fuel and cable-ing systems a notch higher.

door cars, to me, are by far THE most difficult drag cars to build. while the corvette taught me alot, this car humbled me. getting things to fit correctly in a door car is just a VERY humbling experience. any way here's my 1982 camaro outlaw 10.5 car.

not your run of the mill engine. this is a 11.9" deck 4.84 bore space big block chevy. olds style pro stock heads, split dominators, 1 stage of juice. dry sumped. not a killer player piece but, one that could run at most tracks.

last but certainly not least. my top alcohol dragster (TAD). this car was built specifically for a very old and close friend of mine. it's a 292" wheel base, screw blown brad anderson equipped top alcohol dragster.

probably my second favorite motor is the brad anderson billet hemi. it is a staple in the alcohol and pro mod classes. screw blown with a boher c/f hat. this engine is 100% scratchbuilt.

hand formed aluminum body

billet wheels and hand machined tires.

4 feet long w/ the wheelie bar.

hopefully something here may inspire you to take a step outside your comfort zone and try something new. it doesn't have to be a big step to make a big difference.

Dave, no fair your ability to translate from your head to your hands is unbelievable to be sure!!!! i think the first step ,actually i should say one of the first steps (among others is ) Research, and im sure you are very thorough.Great work my freind.every part should be a model in itself! shaun.s
