NEW resin Demon pro stock

What wheel wells would yield the correct ones,or is it more involved than that.

The '71 Demon used Dodge Dart front fenders, and the wheel lips were contoured differently than the Duster/Valiant wheel lips. The MPC '71 Demon kit did not catch this difference, instead using the Duster front wheel lips. I have always given this a "pass", as the 1/1 scale Demon should have had front wheel well openings that matched the Duster wheel lips used in the rear quarter panels. E>G> the kit is actually what the 1.1 scale car should have been. (If you look closely at a 1/1 scale Demon, the difference between the front and rear wheel wells is pretty obvious)

There isn't really a good Dart kit to transfer the front wheel well castings from -

* The original MPC '70 Dart Swinger funny car with Ramchargers markings is probably closest, but the wheel wells are moved forward as on many funny car bodies in the day, so it's not an exact match/swap.

* This MPC body casting was later modified to the Wild Bill Shrewsbury wheelstander kti and the wheel wells were relocated TOO far rearward to match the shorter wheelbase (on A-body Barracudas) that was already engineered into the MPC Hemi Under Glass kit that was used as the basis for the Will Bill Shrewberry chassis.

* The Revell '68/'69 Dart GTS wheel well openings only (the fenders are different) could be used, but those aren't a 100% correct pattern in my opinion.

My recommendation - use the body as is. If I ever do a Demon Pro Stock, that's what I'll do. Best...TB ,

Besides the wheel openings being incorrect, the Demon kit's hood is too flat. Way too flat. That's because the underside half of the hood tooling is carried over from the Duster, unchanged. Compare the Demon kit hood to one from the Ramchargers funny car, LA Dart, or even the AMT Petty Kit Car kits, and the difference sticks out.

Besides that, the fit of the front bumper in the original kit isn't very good. My guess is that the Duster kit tool was converted to the Demon for mid-year release, and a restyle on the 1:1 Duster was anticipated for '72. That never happened, so the front end had to then be changed back to Duster spec in order to produce promotional models.

A while back, I bought a resin Pro Stock Demon body. To make it clear, it is NOT the one pictured above. I don't know who did the one I've got, but it turned out to be a mess. The front wheel openings were unchanged, the rears lengthened (all towards the front, effectively shortening the wheelbase). A tubbed chassis was included, but nobody was narrowing the frame at the rear in '71. A casting of the gutted interior from the later Sox & Martin kit was included, but the master had the rear wall shifted forward to clear the wheel tubs. The hood casting was awful. Out of the whole thing, I've salvaged the bumpers (nice chrome), taillight panel, and front pan. I might be able to use parts of the interior bucket and chassis for something. I've got the front pan grafted to a '75 Dart body, and am pretty far along in (re)fitting the taillight panel. Ironically, the '75 front wheel openings are closer to what is needed for the Demon. I might see if I can scrounge a started LA Dart or Hemi Hunter kit, and cut the front wheel openings and hood from it. I bought a Modelhaus hood, but being a perfect copy of the MPC kit piece it's also too flat.

Guys this is a direct repop for good or worse , the front gravel pan was white glued in the car to make it more stable . That's all we were allowed to do to the car since the car was loaned to us and was a mint kit . I wish we could have made some changes but were couldn't . I think everyone will unstand that a mint that was not ours could be altered. we have save the first 3 pulls so later on after this mold goes bad I will be able to do some changes to the car before it gets remolded.

thanks Chuck
