Toyota Land Cruiser + Car trailer/250 GTO

Recommended Posts

G'day guys, my first post in this section & my first post entirely since late 2012.

I won't get into it now/here but the last build/project I completed ( Dec 2012 ) was a special B'day present for my best mate, who sadly never got to see it, passing away 2wks short of his 43rd B'day. I've been through a lot of depression/sadness over it/him & I'm still not, nor will I ever be able to completely be over his loss.

This project though has helped me a come a long way since & it's a similar theme/build for the same purpose. It's going to be a present for another mate, for his big 5-0th B'day in June. He has no idea about the "caged surprise" but he does know I'm building a replica of his 1:1 Land Cruiser. ( Albeit without all it's patina & worn paint etc.) The surprise is a custom Ferrari 250 GTO that's getting hauled by the Land Cruiser, on a trailer ( die-cast/customised ) & in it's own little "shark cage" ?

I used the Tamiya 80 Series kit as the base for his 1:1 & the Fujimi 250 GTO for the "Shark-Car".

I made all the necessary modifications to the Toyota to get it looking like his 1:1, including the Tow-Hitch/bullbar/rear-windows/wheels/spare tyre/dashboard/seat covers/carpeting/rear door-licence plate section/both gear levers ( high-low)

Under hood detailing/antenna/water bottle/roof racks & had all the decals custom made for both cars. I used automotive paint ( true Toyota Blue Slate colour ) & Tamiya white/mix of blues to get the Blue on the GTO. I used Pegasus Hella? Wheels on the GTO & Aoshima 20s on the trailer, with both centre sections painted Testors Titanium. I made the "shark" cage with square styrene tubing & used Alcad stainless steel to paint it all up. I stripped the die-cast trailer & repainted to match the GTO's colour scheme & added BMF. The GTO's paint scheme is similar ( to keep it in period correct theme ) to the GULF cars of the 60s. The GTO was chosen because it's Italian, like my mate is & because it was produced between 1962-64. He was born in '64 & I know this is a '62 year GTO but there are no standard '64 kits available. The closest is a transkit/resin that use's this Fujimi kit for parts & it was waaaay over my budget, so I didn't think he'd mind or know that it's really a '62 ? I've themed it to his favourite Rugby League team, the Cronulla- Sutherland Sharks.

Both cars are polished & close to being finished. I just have some minor parts to add, mirrors, wipers & strapping the GTO into place on the trailer etc & then I'll wax them up & put them in their display case, ready to give to him on his B'day ??

Anyway here are some pics ( 1:1 Land Cruiser first )

Should have these wrapped up later this week.

Put the wipers/antenna/roof racks on the Cruiser & same for the GTO... Just gotta finish making the tow hitch for the trailer & it's a wrap ?
