Jon Cole
Hi I am contemplating building my first diorama. Something basic for photography porposes of my models, like a parking lot. The edges may contain trees or brush. I keep trying to picture how in the world am I going to store this? Do you install trees in a way so you can remove & bag them so they don't get covered with cobwebs? The foam core board I will use is 40" x 32" Any tips or advice would be appreciated! -Jon-

I see a lot of guys just using a 12"x12" garage or such for model photos. Of course you may want to go my route. I was running out of space for models and utilized an old wine storage spot in my living room to build a "used car lot". It is listed here under "my first diorama". This not only allows me space to display models, and rotate them through at my convenience, but a platform for individual photos if I choose. Hope this has been some help. Mike Whatshisname
Jon, I would not recommend you make your dio so that trees and shrubs are removable. Every time you move them means you are taking something off of them or your chance of breaking or messing them up is high. I would recommend you build a box or cover to store it in or plexiglass pieces that insert in the front and top of your diorama so that they are removable. The only things I would make removable are some work benches & tools in a garage type dio and of course, cars. @ out of the last 4 MCM magazines is 2 of a 3 part study on building a diorama for a photographic background. It is more of a garage diorama than a landscape dio. The third part is due any issue now! Edited March 3, 2008 by Mike Whatshisname
