AMT 32 Ford Phaeton ?

I have 2 Older issues. I traded the interior tud from one.

Many have said the tub is too short, but Both oif mine were correct length.

Just the one in the W-M Checker-Board box was ingraved as a 2 door not 4 dr like it should be.

I need to get back to them some day.

I took some pic's of the tubs, but they are not in my Photobucket albums

Chassis/Engine/etc are identical to the Vicky, and all other AMT 32 Ford kits.

Wrong. Sorry. The chassis (the best of the AMT '32 frames, period) IS the same as the Vicky (NOT to be confused with the Phantom Vickie, which is an entirely different animal) but the AMT '32 roadster and 5-window coupes all have (at least the 20 on my shelf do) the blobular frame with the rear suspension molded in.

The AMT Phaeton shell IS too short in the height department, measured at the firewall, as are ALL AMT '32s. The Switchers kit Phaeton is an entirely different part, IS the correct height, and has an entirely different chassis, etc.

PS. Before it starts, I have the kits in question on the shelf, pulled them down and actually looked, measured and compared...just now.

It comes with the Flattie and a rendition of an FE engine. The wheels are dependent on the issue! for the most part they all seem to have the stock wires and usually but not limited to 4 slot mags, one issue had a set of Cragar Pro-Tech wheels also some have had 5 spoke Cragar style wheels. Just from what I have seen.

Also the rear suspension is separate with a stock or 9" Ford and the frt. has a choice of stock or dropped axle.

I was wondering if anyone has built this kit. Is it the same kit as the AMT switchers?

Any pictures of built models or parts would be appreciated.

I am not sure of the kit origins but I am in mid-build on this kit.

I decided to build it stock because I wanted a few fat fender stock style cars in my collection. There is some flash as you might expect from an older tool. I am using some wide whites from the Modelhaus and painted the wire wheels gloss black.... they look really good but you might want to spend an hour or so trimming the spokes a bit with a new #11 Xacto blade... it is worth it. The chassis builds up pretty quickly and simply right out of the box so no issues there (again this is stock). I am going to re-work the interior with separate side panels as the stock parts do not fit well at all... same for the cowl area and dash... this area needs some significant work to get it right. The flat motor is very simple but with a bit of work is quite presentable..... you be able to turn out the car as pictured above when complete...... not a bad kit for what it is..... basic skills and some patience will turn out a nice car for a small cash outlay....

AMT's '32 Ford Phaeton was out sometime in 1969. I remember buying one in a hobby shop in Altoona, PA. I'm sure it was 1969, and most of the ones I've seen were molded in brown plastic. However, I do have one molded in yellow, although many people don't believe it was ever offered in yellow. It was. I have one.

In 1969 AMT started using the "speeding eagle" logo (see decal sheet), IIRC, and the blue ink "blueprint" instruction sheets, too, both of which were features of the '32 Phaeton release that year, and the brown plastic, as Don mentioned. That psychedelic box top art tho..:

The below version must've been issued in 1973, coinciding with AMT's 25th anniversary. Clean and classic stuff, IMHO:

And at the opposite end of the spectrum, we have the Ertl era reissue box art. The chunky and knobby Goodyear Rally GT tires are bad enough, but contrast between the black frame rails and orange body aren't exactly helping, either. No knock on the builder, just a very unflattering choice to go fenderless with two-tone paint and that uber-chopped top:

I built the Red Hot Phaeton using the AMT body, fenders and chassis combined with the R/M front suspension and small block Ford. The rear rack operates and was scratchbuilt. The interior was modified to add extra detail to the plain kit provided tub. A major omission in the kit is the metal support behind the front seat. Overall a decent kit to use as a basis for further work.

Thanks Michael, it required a shoe horn to fit the 302 into the frame.

I had to split the tranny to get it to fit in around the cross member. Added a tranny cooler, just above the transmission in the photo. The front end is from the R/M deuce with a kit modified rear end. Alclad provided the metallic finishes.

The AMT roadsters and five-window coupe each have a unique (though similar) chassis: rear suspension and axle molded in, separate front spring/axle with backing plates molded in, no height adjustment built in.  Victoria/phaeton/one-shot stock sedan all use the same chassis, fenders, engines and wheels.  All bodies are height deficient at the cowl, and all kits have too-small stock wheels.
