gojogo
Hi folks, I am in the beginning phase of planning a "super detail" build of a 65 or 66 hardtop/notchback mustang. Heres the dilema! I see that revell builds a fastback and convertible in 1/24 and it looks pretty good you can dress it up with model car garage photoetch, but my project has to be a hardtop. I know AMT has a hardtop 1966 and that is great, but I was wondering does it allow itself for a super detail project? Last two questions, does anybody do a "hardtop" resin based off the revell/monogram mustangs or can I graft the roof from the amt to the revell? Finally if anyone has built a super detail 65-66 let me know what you used to "super detail" it, thanks.
MrObsessive
If I were building a hardtop Mustang, I'd probably start with the AMT '66 and kitbash it with the AMT '67 Fastback or Shelby. The chassis would be identical (as they pretty much all were-----1965-73).....as well as other mechanical bits. The '66 kit in of itself is very basic-----molded in chassis details and mundane engine bay details......pretty much typical of your basic kit tooled in the '60's. I know of no resin '65's hardtops out there.....someone else may know, but I've not seen one. You could try the Revell '65 Fastback and use the AMT '66 roof, but get ready for a LOT of bodywork as they're two different scales. You'd have to "stretch and widen" the '66 roof to accommodate the '65 'cuz your dealing with 1:24 vs. 1:25. Good luck and post pics if you can! gojogo
Thanks guys, that is some really solid advice and I appreciate it. I will definitely put it into practice for my 66 build, Cheers, Joe.
