kilrathy10
It has been, recently, brought to my attention that I never did a build thread for this one.....Many of you may have seen it in its completed form, but per request, I will go ahead and post it.....Now, this may take a while.....I'll have to post it piecemeal, as to keep from losing any data because of my "not so new" computer... In the beginning....I had to do some work on the cab to make it a little nicer inside..... The hood got a little treatment, too..... Had to add some mounts for the new air cleaners that would, eventually, adorn the sides..... Then came the chassis stretch.... kilrathy10
Had to make up some homemade air cleaners, longer fuel tanks, and some seat backs..... And the hood gap needed filling, as well.... Edited March 23, 2015 by kilrathy10
kilrathy10
Tool boxes and a Texas bumper, also had to be made..... Then came the box and the boom.....That was much fun..... Took some working out, but I got it to work after a while.... Edited March 23, 2015 by kilrathy10
kilrathy10
Then the fuel tank brackets.....I toyed around with everything I could think of until finally just carving them out, one at a time Then the winch set up.....Wasn't sure what I was going to do, here, either.....I just winged it, and it came out ok.... Carving the pulleys was pretty tricky, as well.....I don't do circles very well.....Finally got it, though.....
kilrathy10
Got enough done to get a little paint down on some things..... Notice my simplistic winch assembly.....Just some plastic here and there eyeballed from some other wreckers I'd seen....
Superpeterbilt
Thanks for taking the time to do this JT. I dig seeing how it's done. I'm tuned in for the next episode
kilrathy10
Now, let's work on the interior....Paint wise, any way..... My first mockup....Up to this point, I wasn't sure if I was going to be able to pull it off.... Again, my simplistic winch assembly.... kilrathy10
Time for a little primer.....This was back before I used black primer for everything..... The primary paints that will be used.... Now with it's two tone look...
kilrathy10
Now, it's interior time, for sure.....Put in a lap top and some old style cup holders.....
kilrathy10
Sleepy time.... Interior is now inside the cab..... Edited March 23, 2015 by kilrathy10
kilrathy10
Engine is now in..... Now I'm just adding pictures all Willy Nilly, it seems..... Air cleaners added.... Finished sleeper and cab..... Just folded a piece of paper towel and crimped it on both sides for the pillow....Another folded piece for the blanky.... Along with a book shelf and flat screen TV.... kilrathy10
Getting really close, now.....At this point, I was really getting exited...... Used quite a few jewels for the chicken lights..... And here it is in the sun....Very close to completion..... gatorincebu
JT, In the past you have on occasion questioned your skill set. i even remember not long ago urging you on to try something you had not done before. Well my friend there is nothing wrong with your skill set. So adapt ,imporvise and overcome! oohrah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!This build shows you can do it!! Be Well Gator
Mike77
It's very cool to see the work that went into such an awesome-looking wrecker JT. I don't have nearly as many "in-progress" pics of mine so I'll probably put a thread for it in the "Under Glass" section. kilrathy10
Thanks, Guys.....I appreciate your kind words...... Yeah, you motivated me pretty good, Gator, to get off my butt and get some things done....Sometimes you just need a little kick in the rear to get you going..... Thanks, Terry......Some of the stuff I've seen you do just boggles the mind......Love your work and having guys like you applaud my work is a pretty cool thing...... Clayton......With yours and my similar building styles, I'm amazed at what I've learned from viewing your work.....Every time I see something you've done, there's something in I can use.....Always enjoy your stuff..... Mike.....You've got some awesome builds, Man.....One day, I'll get to that great big wrecker body you traded me....Once I figure out, exactly what in the world direction I'm gonna take it, anyway......That's done beautifully, as well.....I don't normally take over projects like that, but it just begs to be done up with pride.....I hope to get the motivation I need, this summer.....As for your lack of "in progress" pics, I'm sure anything you have will be great..... And Ken.....I can't wait to see what else you got in your stash......I'm still trippin' over that White Road Boss build..... Dennis....I can't believe what you've accomplished in your limited experience......I'm constantly amazed at what you come up with......Do you even have a year at this stuff, yet?? Amazing..... YOU GUYS ROCK !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Edited March 24, 2015 by kilrathy10
Kenny B
JT, As always very cool. The only problem I see with it is that she's not JT orange. I want to build one of these wrecker bodies for my KW 1/16. Cool. Ken.
