Endurance Racing Build Inquiry

With Le Mans just around the proverbial corner, would anyone be interested in an Ednurance Racing group build? Perhaps restricted to cars that are documented to have actually competed in endurance racing througout the years especially Le Mans. Open to all scales?

I certainly would...if I had time. i've got GT-40s, 917 & 911 GT1 Porsches, D-Jags, Ferraris, a Bentley, a couple of Mercs and C5 and C6-R Corvettes waiting in the queue, but no time. i hope you get a big response. :)

Bill, you've got the whole bloody grid in your stash!!! So far there will two of us lonesome endurance fans building but we will press on regardless. Isn't that the spirit of the 24 Heures du Mans anyway? We ought to kick off the build to concide with the start. The countdown clock:

Hi Paul. I wanted to leave it up to the participants to set their own personal time limit. This should allow everyone to build at their own pace and encourage everyone to challenge themselves. Out of the Box builds, partial or full on conversions, massive scratch building, insanity are welcome and highly encouraged. The provisional stipulations are:

1. Subject automobile must have competed in at least a single round of an FIA sanctioned endurance race and can be documented as such.

2. Coloration and markings should be reasonably accurate.

3. Partially begun (up to 25%) projects are acceptable.

4. All participants must check in with their intended project(s) before the start of the 2014 24 Hours of LeMans (see "countdown clock" link above)

5. Participants are responsible for posting and updating their build progress.

6. Because of the possible length and duration of this thread as well as to maintain focus and integrity, all posts by the entrants must be entirely relevant to the build and must be limited to photos or snapshots of the build in progress. Any irrelevant posts or pictures of pets while charming :) will be deleted. Spectators or non-participants are prohibited from posting anything in the thread. Any comments, suggestions, or assistance such as reference photos should be conducted off thread or by PM.

7. This is intended to be a fun and NON-COMPETITIVE group build with the goal of challenging oneself and achieving personal goals regardless of challenges, difficulties or setbacks.

Again, these are provisional and are open to suggestions by the participants. :D

BTW, here's a link to a comprehensive list of previous 24 Hours of LeMans winners. Clicking onto the winning entry's listing opens another link to photos of the actual car:

I have two completed Le Mans builds ('66 GT40 and a '63 Cobra Hardtop). Working on a '65 Le Mans' GT40 now.

JC, you are more than welcome to participate as long as progress on that GT40 is no more than 25%. You can also participate with multiple entries if you wish as long as they are all at or less than 25% built.

I've modified the thread title to avoid confusion because there will be a properly formatted and official "Endurance Racing Group Build" thread. In the meanwhile, this initial thread can serve to answer questions and as a place to sign up for interested participants.

Here is the kit I am starting with to create GT40 P/1005

photo2-vi.jpg

The kits body is usable but the chassis and interior are sub-par so my intention is to use a Fujimi GT40 chassis. As you can see from this picture the wheel base is quite close but will require significant modifications to lower the entire chassis to fit the shallower LS/Arii body.

After quite a bit of work I was able to make the chassis fit the body.

Cheers Mike. Count me in with the ROG Audi R10 TDI, winner of the 2006 Le Mans.

That's great Paul! See you on the grid. :D

That's a superb start JC. Try not to finish it before the rest of us even start

Revised the official group build thread. It can be found here: http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=90008

For any interested parties, the entry is not solely restricted to Le Mans. Any cars that competed in any endurance race sanctioned by the FIA are eligible. Some ideas may be found here:

How about any of Cunningham's cars especially "Le Monstre":
