migace
I just finished this up and it was great fun. Model King reissue 71 Bird. I built it as a curbside so I could keep its 2V head motor for other projects. (1970 galaxie??) The kit comes with a engine plate so I detailed that and here she is. I also liked the 1970 Bird's painted front bumper so I kept that but other than that its a 71. I also added a soft top with some strip styrene and adding texture with holding the spray can at a distance. This forum is such a great resource, thank you members for all the tips, it made my first custom soft top a success!(I think) When I was researching the car online there were many slightly different ways I saw the soft top done. I had to go through a lot of pictures to find the right combo. The area that is louvered behind the back glass sometimes was part of the soft top and sometimes i saw it painted. I went with paint I liked the look better. Comments are welcome, enjoy! Edited August 14, 2012 by migace
TooOld
Very , very nice ! ! Your color choice turned out great . We are probably in the minority , but I really like these Big Birds !
bbowser
Very nice, clean build. I love the color and a white top/interior fits the era perfectly. Even though they're not 'performance cars' like the earlier ones I too have a soft spot for the big birds.

migace
Ahhh your right I looked it over again. A 429 then with 2v heads? Also the engine was cast with a manual trans not a auto unit like the plate that also came with it, another reason besides scoring a nice motor was that fact. Thanks for all your comments! migace
I'm so kicking myself in the ass for not getting one of these when they were reissued, now they're all but unobtainable!u did a fine job man! I got super lucky, I really take my time sometimes buying models and this Bird was at a local independent HS for a while, no one bought it for a while, and every time I went there it stared me in the face! I finally broke down and I am glad I did! You Can still get them on Ebay. I found more for about the same price a found at my LHS. About 25.00 of course shipping extra! and there were about 5 or 6 I saw available.
