TV and movie rigs that could be made from existing kits

Recommended Posts

On my to build list is "LIL" POGO's truck off an episode from B+J and the Bear. Her truck was in the epsiode where Hammer (NO ......NOT MC " HAMMERTIME" HAMMER) was racing her in the mountains. B+J rounded a blind corner swerved to miss them and 1/3 of his cab went off the road teetering off a cliff looking into a canyon. Her truck was a 352 Pete either black or a dark dark blue w/ a white stripe. The AMT 352 Pacemaker could work for this.

Funny how I remember worthless details like this from back in the day but manage to misplace my keys about every other day. GEEEEZE !!!

Ray, I thought I was the only one to remember the "Yellow Bird"! I've got you one better, though, here's a pic of her, I found the movie online and downloaded it. This is a screenshot from the movie.

Wow, I didn't even know some of these movies existed! And I considered myself to be "in the know" when it came to truck related movies! I just watched Moonfire and part of Deadhead Miles. Weird but lots of cool truck footage from the 70's! Thanks for posting those links!!!

I thought the same thing myself. Several I posted were movies I've never seen or heard of. I've still never seen Moonfire.

Here's the KW cabover from Breaker! Breaker!

..and I forgot about Hijack. I've seen a model of this one, it's a Freightliner cabover.

The white and blue KW W900 from last of the Cowboys:

If you want an obscure one from a movie, here's the Ford LTL 9000 from Naked Gun. Easy paintjob, it's plain white, but nice.

AH, good choice mistermodel. I forgot all about High Ballin. I really liked Duke's KW and that Western Star wrecker.

Here's the KW.

I saw that wrecker in person, many years ago at there shop somewhere in the niagra region, real nice.It was also an overdrive wrecker of the month. If memory serves me right the owner was larrys truck service. The owner at that time also had a 359 trailer toter, with 2 double bunks, the second one had hydraulic arms to set it on the ground,so a harley could be driven into it,then raised back on to the frame. That was about 30 years ago, that 359 was probibly the first of its kind in ontario.

I don't think anyone mentioned it (though I could be blind) ;) ........

How about the Pete from "Breakdown". The Italeri Pete 377 A/E kit would be perfect for that.

Get out of my head!!! :) I was thinking about that one, I just couldn't remember the name of the movie!

While we're on the subject of Ford COEs, how about "The Blue Mule" from "White Line Fever"? That was a 1974 Ford WT9000, and SourKraut offers a conversion cab. Of course, someone else is making a conversion cab, too. :D

WHO, WHO, WHO??? That's my owl impersonation!

I'm looking for a good side shot. I swear it has a small sleeper on it. Sharp blue and gold paintjob. Single axle. I'm just trying to determine of that's a Holmes Wrecker. I believe it is, but from this angle, I can't tell. It's the only shot they have.

I did find 2 sweet Western Stars from La Menace. released 1977. I never heard of it, but the trucks are cool. Filmed in France and Canada.

Nice one with a mercury sleeper:

That's why I remember the sleeper, too, on the wrecker. The truck from Coast to Coast is a GMC General from what I've heard. It has a listing at imcdb.org, but no pix. The only one I could find is in a series of press release photos.

Look at the pic of Robert Blake and Diane Cannon in kneeling in snow. You'll see what I strongly believe is a General from its shape in the background, and a livestock trailer. It's not a good pic, and the snow covers the lower 1/2 of it. I'll see if I find any more.

How about the Pete from Maximum Overdrive ?

Maybe could use the revell 359 kit ?

Believe it or not that was actually a 1970s Western Star. AMT kit with the sleeper from the AMT KW, plus some serious scratchbuiling for the goblin face on the hood.

I just watched "Maximum Overdrive" last night! I'm surprised there has not been more added in here from that movie, since most of the movie was in a truck stop. Here's just a few of them I thought about while watching it last night.

Mack Cruiseliner

Autocar tractor that was pulling the trash wagon

International Transtar cabover with the "BIC" trailer

Mack R model and tanker

There were so many during the refueling scenes, I can't remember them all! Even though it's not actually a truck, what about the Cat dozer, too?

does any one remember the name of a movie were the main character chases after a guy in a truck. who ran his son over on the shoulder and he gets in a truck and trys to track the guy down. I remember seeing it as a kid but cant remember what the heck its called

Revenge on the Highway. starring Stacy Keach(the guy from Road games). If you look in an earlier post, I mentioned the yellow KW from that movie. As for Stacy Keach's truck, it's a Pete 377 with a 63" flattop sleeper and a big wind fairing on the roof.

Here's the yellow KW.
