The door panels were a result of the bad descisions I made on my Concept Charger, I just found a much more effective way of doing it this time around. We've got a bit of progress for your viewing pleasure this fine Sunday night, sit back and enjoy the verbal ramblings..... I found that the rear hatch doesn't like staying completely shut, so I tried figuring out why, What I found was...nothing. I think it might be the thickness of the paint, but that's only because I eliminated every other possible problem. So I decided some magnets would do the trick. Problem is, I couldn't get a magnet into the hatch, so I cut a piece off of a Dremel bit, and ground it down to fit in between the interior panel and hatch. It took 6 earth magnets below the interior floor to actually pull hard enough on the tiny piece of steel, but it works. Then I added some decals under the hood, and a few to the body. Then I set out to get my tail lights done, but I'm not too sure it looks good enough, let me know what you think, I'm considering stripping 'em and painting them completely red.... By submerging the film in soapy water, I eliminated the dust/hair issues, and applying the "glass" to the film while it was submerged took care of any dust/hair on the glass itself. The results will be posted tomorrow (Gonna give the film's adhesive two days curing time to be safe!), but they're looking really good right now! That looks great Mike, maybe trying to apply the film while using the floor of a barber shop as a bench wasn't your best choice... Mitch, I really thought getting a haircut while building was a good way to utilize my time, maybe giving blood while painting wouldn't be a good idea either! I'm trying to scratch-build some new tail lights, but my first attempt failed miserably, so this is attempt #2. I got a piece of scrap 1/2" thick plexiglass from a sign shop in Fayetteville today, this hopefully will do the trick. I cut a couple of pieces out, discovered they were too small, then cut two bigger pieces, much better this time around. Now I've got to shape them to fit in my spare body from the top to the bottom of the tail light area, then I'll start shaping them into what I've got in my twisted little head! But if I can make idea work, I'll be some kind of evil genius, right? OK, so I started slicing chunks off of one of my "ice cubes" to shape it to fit from top to bottom in my spare body. With that part done, I now have to find a way to match the angle of the hatch, which will probably be done with the Dremel later today. I also got a rough shape on the back side of it, by slicing and sanding a bit. So far, it's looking more like a tail light (A very wide one!) than an ice cube! I will wait to make a full judgement until it is finished. If I may ask - what camera are you using and at what settings? My photography is very inconsistent and I wish to improve. Jose, I thin my Nail Polishes with regular Lacquer Thinner, a ratio of about 50/50. I start at 50/50 and add more thinner if needed. My airbrush is about the most basic setup you'll ever see, an old Testors (When Wal-Mart sold 'em for $15) single action, external mix hooked up to an Paasche compressor. Many years ago, I bought and tried both a Badger and a Paasche Dual Action/Internal mix airbrushes, but just couldn't get good results with them, so I gave them away. Years later I found this one, and have been extremely happy ever since. I've got an Aztec Dual Action/Internal mix that I won in a raffle last year, but I still can't use the stinking thing. So I'm extremely low tech, but it works great for me! This build has progressed very nicely. Thanks Tim, I always try to find a way to make those little problems go away, sometimes they work, sometimes not, but I'm always gonna try something different at least. The "Bull-nose" will hopefully be helped by the decal I'm having made, we'll see once I get it on the hood. I've kind of gotten used to it now, it's grown on me! As far as my camera, I've got a Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ7, it's 7 mega-pixels, and depending on what I'm shooting, I'll dial up what I need. For the pictures in this thread, I set it on Simple (Or Macro if needed for the small stuff) and it does a wonderful job. If I'm taking shots outside of a completed model, I'll set it to Aperture Priority and set the aperture to 8.0 so I can get a nice sharp image of the entire model. I got this one at Circuit City while they were still around on clearance, and I am still amazed at how well it works, no matter what I'm taking pictures of! Here's a shot of a completed model taken with the aperture set on 8.0, with a little practice I found I could take pictures of models that will fool most people into believing the model is real! I've got until May 15th of 2015 to get this baby finished! Excuse the condition of the magazine, the torrential rains yesterday from Hurricane Arthur pretty much did this issue in...but I could read the important part! A Model Car Garage PT Cruiser PE set gave up one of it's Chrysler "Wing" logos. It's a big help, but I still feel like it needs more.... Custom Mike Posted July 5, 2014 Author Share Posted July 5, 2014 Kerry, I'm here a lot, but just not very active, I'm like a stalker around here! OK, now onto the reshaping of the side windows. I started by laying a strip of tape along the top edge where I wanted the windows to be, and a piece at the D-pillar (The last pillar above the tail light). The reason for the piece at the D-pillar was to get the angle of the rear window more in line with the angle of the D-pillar itself. Once the tape was where I wanted it, I used a black Sharpie to color in the areas to be removed/reshaped. I plan on rounding off the front and back corners of the windows at the top edges, but a very small rounding this time around, the shape will be very close to the shape I drew on the top of the front side window when it's all done this time.
