Hi guys, this is my Italeri-Revell Volvo VN670. I painted it in Robert Transport colors (obviously!). This company is based in Rougemont and has a depot in Boucherville Quebec, near Montreal and an other depot in Toronto, Ontario. It actually owns 1100 Trucks and 3000 trailers. A lot of these trucks are Volvo 630, 670 and some are 780's. I see these trucks all the time on the roads near where I live. I started painting this truck in february and left

it to dry for months until 2 weeks ago. The color is Tamiya Camel Yellow shot with an airbrush. The frame is Tamiya flat black shot with it's rattle can. The decals are made from photographs I shot from real trucks and transfered on Testors white decal material for the ones that need white colors, and on clear material for black only lettering. Even the Volvo crest in the grill is from a photograph since I ripped the original kit decal. I put on some bare metal foil on the body side moldings instead of flat black for a customized look and add some luster instead of the flat black. The seats and interior in primer grey with flat black trim. This is still in progress, I need to make the panels in the bumper for the fog-driving lights, the hoses and electrical connections and the communications equipment, such as the antennae and GPS locator.

I like the outcome. Some of you must have seen one of the 1:1 on the road, they're all over North America.

Thanks for the nice comments, guys! This is fun stuff... This actually came out better than I originally thought.

It's a gutless wonder, I know, but I have more kits with engines. I'm just warming up... I get inspired from all YOUR models guys, it's nice to see other people's work. I'll finish the rest of it and try to build a decent trailer for it. :lol:

Thanks Tim! It kinda is it's sibling actually! I watched the whole story of the LNG 367, when I saw the color you painted it, I thought it looked like one of Robert's trucks, then it hit me when you put some scaled down documents with the big "R" on the helper's seat. That is one neat truck! That was some intricate exhaust system! The aero treatment was well executed, cab extension, the extra tanks... I really am learning thru the many instructions you put down on your site when you are building the "truck sculptures" that you do. Thanks! :)

Anyway, for the Robert Volvo, I've got some pictures if you ever need any, I've also scaled down some pictures for the decals if need be. By the way, I like that Freightliner FLD in your avatar... That's one good lookin' truck! Keep on truckin' Chuck!

Actually, I had designs on this one. I'm not much of an artist, but I am pretty good with computer graphics. The mural would require much manipulation, but I could print it out with some work. I really like fleet subjects and your's looks just right.

Thanks guys, I'm preparing to finish this truck. I got some stuff to make an oil cooler to put on the back of the cab, some aluminum rod for equipment and some sheet styrene and tubing for the GPS antena and what not. I need to complete the housings for the fog and driving lights. I have a couple more decals to add to the body. As for the trailer.... Hmmm I was looking at an AMT flatbed to extend to 53 scale feet but the thing's not quite wide enough for the truck and doesn't look right. I'll have to look at some Italeri trailers. The "American" box van does not fill my need either as it doesn't look quite high enough for the Volvo's high roof. To me, a van should be at least as high as the truck roof. Sooooo, I am going to try and find an Italeri container trailer or maybe convert the aforementioned not very good Italeri van into a flatbed or step deck. Any suggestion will be considered... Help. B)

I am planing a long time now to use 2 Italeri cargo trailers to build an acurate 48ft van by cut and paste the side walls to catch the correct height. The left side walls of the second kit should work good enough to build also a grain trailer.

I am also planing to use some parts of the Italeri cargo trailer and then scruchbuild the side walls by using styrene sheets to build a 53ft.

What do you think about?

I am also planing to use some parts of the Italeri cargo trailer and then scruchbuild the side walls by using styrene sheets to build a 53ft.

Hi Kostas, I think that would be a good idea, since some box trailers have some sort of stiffening moldings along the sides of the van. So that would help conceal the cut lines in the body. As for the back doors, I think it wouldn't be so bad either, since they're pretty smooth. Some putty would cure the cut lines. I would have to be careful to cut at the right place to get the door hinges and pins aligned. To have 2 trailers to work with would give me two other axles and sets of wheels. 3 axles on a 53 foot van is realistic enough and look pretty sharp. I'll have to investigate my own unbuilt american van to determine what I'd need to do for that extension. I'll have to look at what tools I need for a long straight cut to get a constant width for the height and length extensions from the second van. I'm a bit concerned for the vertical joints for the 5 foot length extension. We need a plan Kostas! Hahahaha :)

Another thing, the van sides are corrugated, so we need similar panels to extend the sides. Either that or make new smooth panels at the right length from .040 evergreen styrene. A 53 foot van is 26.5 inches long, I think we'll need two lengths of evergreen for the sides, just like the kit is configured. I'll have to think this out...

That is a nice one Chuck! Yeah, Robert Transport has many tractors with murals such as this one. My model is based on the 670, this truck is a 780 and Italeri made this model too. I think you still can get one of these at RedFroghobbies.

Belive me, I have so many kits, both Volvos included that I might not get to build them all.

It would be very easy to convert the van from what it is to an acurate 48ft by adding in heigh by using the side walls from the second kit. This will not require special plans. I think that it would be very dificult to extent the side walls and at the same time add in height. This might need a third kit.

The acurate 48ft trailer is a good deal cause you can use just 2 Italeri kits and end up with 2 builds, 48ft van/reefer and 48ft grain trailer.

We had a VN & flat deck delivering the fertilizer on the Estate back in the spring. I wish I'd had my camera with me, I could have crawled all over it taking pic's.

When I got home & told Mary (my wife) she said;

"Did you have your cell phone with you?"

"Yep" came my reply,

"Then you had a camera didn't you, you dipstick !!"

"DOH!!!"

I think that's the best idea so far. It's simple enough and I won't have to buy three trailers at 60$ a pop to end up with only one build up. Thanks Kostas.
