flynstyrn
What do y'all use to mask off with NO bleed? I've tried the rubbery liquid mask and hate it. Ever use bare metal foil?
Miatatom
Lots of folks here use BMF. I can see the advantages. Being a returnee to the hobby, that's one tip I've got bookmarked and will use on my 61 Impala.

59 Impala
I use Frog tape from the Sherwin Williams store. The yellow Frog tape. It's like Tamiya tape but a hole lot more for your money. Dan
Bartster
l use Scotch 3M blue painters tape, then spray just enough clear to "seal" the mask from bleed thru. I do lotsa flames & multi colors with no issues. Bart
Guest G Holding
Tamiya, and burnish the edge Please! Fine line is fine, I prefer Tamiya for plastic

Guest
Tamiya tape is the best hands down. The blue masking tape is good also, but not as good as Tamiya.

Guest
l gotta try it then. l can't imagine getting better results, but it's worth a shot. l'm due for more tape soon anyway ! If you get it,spend the extra money and get the dispenser. It keeps the sides of the tape from collecting those fuzzies that will sometimes end up in your paint job. I use the 6mm for the edges and the blue tape for the rest.
slusher
Jacen l buy my Tamiya tape online from ebay. there are no hobby shops in my area. it is the best....
dantewallace
I have been using scotch magic tape since it's release with excellent results. I like that I can use the transparency of the tape to see just how well my edges are sealed before paint work.
southpier
It won't as long as you don't burnish it down like it will be permanent. A quick swipe with a thumb or finger attaches BMF well enough to be a mask without damage in removal. I also use 3M masking tape, but alot of folks feel it's too prone to picking up fuzz on it's edges but i've had pretty good success with it. i'll give it a try - cause i certainly can't get it to look like chrome! i have better luck with photo etch than i do with BMF. thanks
Mike_G
The adhesive on blue "long-mask" tape reacted with my polished-out clearcoat (Duplicolor) resulting in a grainy surface which then needed to be re-wetsanded and polished out again. Fortunately, my clearcoat was applied thick enough to allow it otherwise I'd have been screwed. Tamiya tape is well-worth the expense, and that's coming from a confirmed cheapskate. Bartster
Bart- If I run across some tomorrow you want me to grab you a roll? Or do you have a hobby shop within reach? Sorry Jamie- BMF= Bare Metal Foil. Sorry man, just read this today, lol ! Thanks for the offer, but l'm covered now. Bart
CadillacPat
Tamiya is superior by far. I buy mine from Hobylinc, 10 rolls at a time of the 6mm, 10mm and 18mm. Purchase the dispensors and all you need from then on is just the rolls themselves. Hobylinc always has discounts and sale prices on Tamiya.
