kod38
Hey Guys, First of all thank you Gregg and Jairus for letting me post this here. This is for a contest my model goup and I are putting on. NO COST TO ENTER,this is about love for a certain genre of model building. The rules so far are: a)Must be an off road inspired build such as a dune buggy, lifted 4x4,Desrt racing, rock crawling,Jeeps,etc.. B)1/25 and 1/24 scale only c) no die cast d) partial projects allowed at start date,no further than %50 along. e) build and enter as many models as you like in time allowed f) must provide updated pictures once a month so people can follow along g) Classes so far are Competition and Play, with 2 more categories of working suspension and non working suspension. Depending on how many builds we get and prizes collected will determine final categories. Categories and FINAL rules will be posted at contest start. So far Prizes are things like unbuilt model kits,so real concepts Iroc swampers, needle file sets, steel rulers, resin parts, custom paint masks from RPP,.....alot more to come. We have off road related swag coming from Race Dezert.com,Off Road Wherehouse, and Coyne Motorsports. Also a member said he could get a signed copy of "Dust To Glory" with Andy Griders signature. He was in most of the movie racing for team Honda. Stay tuned!!!! I figure to have at least 25-30 done builds when it's over. See flyer below. kod38
I put together a photo folder of off road models to give build ideas. Hope this helps. If you need to know where to find parts and supplies for these types of builds,I can help with that too. Billy Kingsley
Would a factory 4x4 work? Like, something with an off-road package? I have plans for a full off road vehicle, but it's not going to be ready for a long, long time....certainly not for this contest.

Wildrice
Doug where do you buy your stuff at? My LHS doesn't carry it.
kod38
Doug where do you buy your stuff at? My LHS doesn't carry it. Styrene?? Well,do you have a train shop too? Model rail roaders use this stuff alot. I have to order online because my LHS is going out of business. RPP Hobby carries some popular plastruct sizes here-I asked him to carry some and he got it right away.LOL! http://rpphobby.com/Aftermarket%20Model%20Parts.htm I would get a catalog from evergreen and plastruct so you can see all they offer. http://www.plastruct.com/ http://www.evergreenscalemodels.com/ Get yourself a good liquid glue like Tenax 7 or Proweld too. I wish I lived closer,I would just show you what I use. Maybe I will do a tutorial for TMM. Doug

kod38
Here is the build I have going so far. This is a ww2 vw Kubelwagen made to look kinda like a vw thing I hope. I only have the front half of the chassis and cage so far. I would say I am 10% done. It will have coil over shocks, porsche trans, motor? chevy v-6 -porsche 6 - or a scat v-4. Has a long way to go. Billy Kingsley
Looking good! I totally changed my build...I brought home the new AMT/Model King 72 Blazer and it's almost done...it would have been done if I didn't ruin the hood, I've got it all sanded now I just have to fix it! Prime, paint, clear. Hope I don't mess it up again! Otherwise, it's done, and my entry is complete!

Billy Kingsley
I really like your roll cage Bobby that looks awesome. Not like pieces of plastic glued toghter like mine do, it looks like a real roll cage to me!
kod38
Here are where I will put the done builds. Here are the first 2 done. http://s42.photobucket.com/albums/e320/kod...amp;media=image
Wildrice
Thanks Billy. Thats the very first cage I've built. This model is my first attempt at any scratchbuilding. I used plastic rod for the rear hoop and plastic tube with wire inserted for front hoop. Took me about 3-4 hrs to do.
Billy Kingsley
I finished my Blazer and posted it in the workbench section. I also finished a Mercedes Benz 230 G but I don't know if that's a 4x4 or not! I think it is, as it has driveshafts going to both front and rear axles. That's also posted in the Workbench section!
