Silverado 1500 into 2500

This is a project i started pretty recently. Its a Silverado 1500 that im trying to make it to a 2500 with a diesel engine. The hardest part is trying to make the engine look like a legitemate Duramax diesel which started out as the 5.3 gas engine that came with the kit and i added a turbo on to the top of the intake, bent some plastic to connect the exhaust manifolds to the turbo and i shaved the coil packs off of the valve covers. here are some pics

Didn't Chevy convert a gas V-8 to diesel to start with?

With all the diesels on the market, you'd think they'd kit a one.

Well actually Chevy successfully converted a 4.3L Gas V6 into a Diesel V6, after Oldsmobile went rounds with their Diesel Converted Olds 350's.... Chevy had learned alot from Olds' mistakes, and was able to refine their Diesel Conversion attempts..... Oldsmobile was the only one to attempt a Diesel V8 Conversion, and the rest of the GM Brands had Olds Diesel Engines placed between their framerails..... Technically you could use any 1960's-1970's Oldsmobile V8 that was kitted, and visually convert it into a Diesel.....

if you really want an awesome diesel engine try to scoop up a VW V10 TDI

nice project though, i like the way you're aproaching it from a different angle , i would have never thought to make it into a selfcombuster

You could use Revell/Monogram's Grand National/Donk Regal V6 to give you a good starting point..... You know, I have never been able to understand why Diesel Pickups haven't been kitted as of yet.... It's Funny that Revell of Germany has done Diesel Uni-Mogs,Big Rigs,Etc, and Now TDI V10 Race Cars, so when are they going to do some pickups already????

pickups are gassguzlers, they need nothing short of a 350

Got some more work done on the truck. I'm almost done with the chassis except for the exhaust and the wheels, which I have finally picked out a set for it. I wasn't planning on getting wheels this big but i like 'em. I also enlarged the lower section of the grille due to a dremel tool accident. I think it turned out pretty good though.

But it doesn't look like a Duramax to me. Of course I'm extremely bias because I used to work for DMax in Moraine OH. So that's why it doesn't look like it to me. lol. The 6.6 is a huge imposing hunk of iron when you see it. Makes the 5.3 look tiny. But hey, since there isn't a 6.6 Dura out there, good work using your imagination and available items! Nobody else will notice unless you've seen it going down the production line.

I like the 4.5 idea. And I'm eagerly awaiting the real deal 4.5, can't wait to see all the uses for that thing. Reason stands to me that since it was designed to fit where the Chevy small block fits, so imagine the possible uses: trucks and suvs obviously, but what about a G8 with 520 pound feet of torque.

I like your project. I'd love to tackle a Silverado if Revell would update it to the new body style. Or a GMT900 Avalanche, that'd be even better for me. Love those things. Or maybe we'll get a new Ram. I could work with that as well.

Yea Im pretty sure the 2500 are 6 lug and the wheels im putting on it are 5 lug, but changing that kind of stuff is way beyond my skills.

Got quite a bit of work done this time.Both the interior and the cab is finished is finished. the wheels are attached. now im trying to sand the orange peel off of the left side of the bed. here are some mock up pics. sorry about the bad pics, they were taken with my cell phone

Depends on if it was a 2wd or 4wd, and which Axle(s) it came with...... The Majority of them were/are 8-Lugs as a 3/4ton, but you could order with 6 Lugs for a smaller setup.... GM went to a Standard 6 Lug Configuration on the '96/98 Half Ton models. and 8 Lugs on 3/4 Tons.....

With that said, It's a Great Looking Truck I wish there was more Truck Kustom Wheel choices that are 6 and 8 Lugs, as I got a couple of 3/4 Tons I would like to build myself(My '89 Standard Cab LWB Silverado had 16" Factory Steel 6Luggers, and my '77 Standard Cab LWB GMC has Factory Steel 16" 8Luggers. neiither of which I can build a Replica Box Stock )....

Welly makes a diecast Chevy Suburban in 1:24 scale with some decent 8-lug wheels

i haven't seen how good these are in person and these are the bast pics i could find

jada makes one too...

and i'm not sure who makes this...
