SWEEEET!!!

Harry, being unfamiliar with doing illustrations in Photoshop, do you start with a photo, then "doctor it" to look like a drawing?

No, it's not a doctored photo. It's created completely with Photoshop. I do use a photo as a reference, the same way you use a person as a reference when you paint their portrait, but I did change a lot from the photo. For example, I did different wheels than what the car in the photo had.

Here is a closeup, so you can better see how I "drew" it using the Photoshop drawing/painting tools. I drew this one using the exact same techniques that I used in the Photoshop tutorial I posted here.

That looks great!! By the way, what would be a good drawing program for someone with limited budget and even more limited experience with such programs? I have Windows XP....

I do all my drawing/illustration in either Photoshop or Illustrator, and neither are cheap. But you can download free 30 day trials from the Adobe site and play around with them. There are other programs like Paintshop Pro, but I've never used anything but PS and Illustrator, so I can't comment on any other drawing programs.

There is a "Photoshop Lite" version called Photoshop Elements, but again... never used it so I really can't say anything about it other than it's sort of a "Photoshop for Beginners" version of PS (same basic tools but none of the filters and effects and goodies you get with full-blown Photoshop).

Beautiful illustration. And thank you, thank you for taking the time and effort to post your tutorials on using Photoshop. I've never done any computer illustration whatsoever, but thanks to your tutorial, I may slowly be able to develop a new skill.

If you try it, I think you'll like it. It's not too hard to get the hang of it, and once you have a basic understanding of how PS works, it can be pretty addictive!
