The LIARS Club model show that was scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 10 in Freeport, NY (on Long Island) has been cancelled due to damage to the hall from Hurricane Sandy. The club members are OK, but the hall sustained more damage than can be repaired in a week.

Yeah I just wanted to reiterate that the LIARS Model Car Challenge Show for 2012 has been cancelled due to Hurricane Sandy's water damage, lack of power and just an overall general mess. The Freeport Recreation Center has already been booked for the 2013 show. Apologies to all who planned to attend, but I'm sure all will understand due to the circumstances. Prayers and best wishes to all who were affected by the storm.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but:

"Unfortunately the LIARS organization is informing you that the 2012 LIARS Model Car Challenge has been cancelled. The Freeport Recreational Center is presently in a disaster recovery mode due to “Superstorm Sandy”. Facility will not have power, water, etc. restored in time to host our 2012 LIARS Model Car Challenge.

LIARS has reserved November 9, 2013 for a combined 2012/2013 LIARS Model Car Challenge at the (same) Freeport Recreational Center.

To those of you who have paid for tables, please advise Rich Argus as to whether you wish a refund or to apply the deposit to next year’s show.

No decision has been made regarding the 2012 Trophy Package plaques to reflect next year’s event.

Representatives from Revell, Inc. were to attend this year’s event. Hopefully the LIARS will see these representatives, our vendors, & more importantly you on November 9, 2013.

Please spread the word amongst our fellow modelers, vendors, etc.

The LIARS believes that this cancellation is in the best interest of all given the severity of “Superstorm Sandy”. Even if the facility could be made available, we are concerned about our fellow modelers storm recovery and travel restrictions that may still be in place next weekend."

I have no further info but I will pass any and all along when and if I get some...

You have to see it up close to believe the widespread devastation the Island took. Something like 650,000 still without power and some will be lucky to be hanging Xmas lights this year.

The entire Freeport waterfront area (2 blocks south of the Rec center) was submerged in salt water. The high tide line was at 27A and close to spilling onto the Meadowbrook Parkway. The entire Ocean Parkway (great east-west scenic escape route) is closed down with heavy damage to the barrier beaches. Parts of Babylon and Lindenhurst are still under water with 100 or more houses lost. The total (so far) is 100,000 houses and businesses lost throughout the Island.

5 days after the hurricane, virtually no gas is to be had. Home heating oil is very scarce and another nor-easter is expected within the next few days. Everyone is pretty much in the survival mode right now. The only real bright spot for me is the 11/15 LIARS monthly meeting.
