At TSSMCC we had a good showing today, most of the usual suspect were at the meeting. Gregg Hogg and Bob Doebley came up from the Philly Guys to attend. Victor from the Diversified Scalerz came too. I got 3 oz. of House of Color Candy Brandywine this week. I have a box of new, empty paint jars waiting…… We have about 3 paints this week. Stock up now, building season is upon us….. Once I get a sunny day (Friday allegedly) I'll take some photos. The thing is obviously pretty big, and it'll overwhelm the area on my bench I normally shoot photos. Thanks in advance for the photos. The promo has been detailed, and the Lincoln, Rambler and Monaco are unbuilt. I had to buy the AMC diecast, it was too nice and cheap. Love the Monaco and Caddy Cory... Typical Tamiya kit...finely molded body and parts(but somewhat simplified), no flash, nice chrome, and I'm sure it'll be easy to assemble. And yes, it has an engine....not a curbside kit. Hey James, I have the rally version of that kit, mostly finished. The rally version is almost identical to the street version, except for dirt tires and rally lights. I can tell you, it is a rather nice kit, that fits together well. The only reason I didn't finish is that I decided I want to add fender flares and wider wheels, and I didn't feel like I was ready to do the body work. I have more than enough projects already! However, a fellow Finnish modeler passed away recently (R.I.P. ) and now folks were selling a part of his collection. The prices were fair, so I just had to get a couple of kits... -AMT '59 Edsel. This is a complete buildup, not a glue bomb and all parts are there except one hubcap. I'm going to build it as a Mild Custom. -AMT '58 Edsel. This will be used as a chassis and engine donor for the '59. -AMT '62 Bel Air Super Stock. I will use this as a donor kit for my Ronnie Sox '63 Impala Z-11 build. -Revell/Monogram '59 Impala HT. Decals and Custom parts are missing, but that doesn't matter me as this will be a Junior Stocker. -Revell '69 Chevy Nova. I'm taking the engine from this one to my '60 Impala project. The Nova will probably end up being an Outlaw 10.5 car or something like that. -AMT '51 Chevy Glue Bomb. Looks like someone has crashed this one. It will be used as a parts car for the other '51 Chevys I have. -Lindberg's '32 Ford Pickup. I'm planning to turn this one into an Early '60s Show Rod. -Red taillights for '61 Dodge Phoenix. -A set of resin Steel Wheels that are cast by a friend of mine. -Super Glue. Surface Air Lift, it comes overseas on available space on various cargo flights. Since it's a first come, first serve space thing it usually takes two to three weeks - as opposed to the 3-4 days FedEx or Japan Post EMS (Express Mail Service). The speed (or rather the lack thereof) comes with lower price than the speedier options, and is the most economical way to ship 1-3 kits. After that you're usually over the 2000g weight limit and have to ship one of the other two ways. The big difference in delivery time has led to the joke that SAL isn't a thing, it's actually a guy named Sal who delivers the mail via donkey the way they get mail down into the base camps at the bottom of the Grand Canyon. We got our mail through the APO system, which basically was the military end of USPS service. We got a lot of care packages from home, tons of Christmas gifts from my grandparents mailed to us all marked SAM which stood for Space Available Mail, pretty much like you described SAL. But as kids we used to giggle that all our gifts came from Uncle SAM. On Sunday Morning at 0230 I pull out of the Pittsburgh L&DC with what I call the Troop Mail Run. It's all the FPO/APO mail from anywhere along the East Coast & Eastern Midwest (think Ohio, Michigan, Eastern Indiana, et al) that is sorted and then consolidated to Chicago for air lift out of the States.
