Revell '66 Chevy Impala

This is just my perception (and opinion) but looking at the Revell '65 from a front 3/4 view, the trailing edge of the roofline doesn't have the right angle to me compared to the 1:1. Both the leading edge and the trailing edge of the "C" pillar should be at the same angle, but to me they aren't. The rear window (part of the trailing edge) could be fixed------but with kits costing $20+ a pop, I'm just not that into the car (yet) to fool with it.

I know, I know, there I go being "Obsessive" again!

I'm won't be at the meeting tomorrow John as I've made plans to be visiting friends outta town............:o

Thanks Bill. I am currently in work full force on this subject and it is coming along well (imagine that notion!). I have studied as many pictures of these cars as I can find to get my build as accurate as I can, but never noticed any inaccuracies with the A and C roof pillars. I'll look closer, but it's already in paint and there's no turning back on the bodywork. Still, I want an accurate 1966 kit to build.

Family does come first! Have fun!!!

I for one, will buy a case of 'em! 66 was a GREAT year for Chevy's! I got a 66 convert from R&R, an put the roof from a 70 Galaxie on it, I know,I know,It's not accurate BUT it sure looks good ta ME! It LOOKS like a Biscayne, an I put a 427 outta the 68 Vette in it! Iwanted to do it in real life, but my Pop nixed the idea caz it was a 283 an it burned ALOT of oil, so Pops said it wasn't worth it. I COULDN'T tell him I was gonna change engines in it, he'd REALLY have gone thru the roof! BUT , the 66 Impala has ALWAYS been a favorite of mine from that day on! I'm REAL HAPPY to hear this,I just hope IT HAPPENS!!!!! ;):blink:

The comments on AMT's '67 Impala roof are correct. Here is a cropped photo of the kit's roof...

And here is my friends '65 Hardtop. The sheetmetal for the roof is the same for the '67 Impala.

The sides of the roof on the 1:1 form two distinct angles, where AMT's '67 body is a long sweeping bend, forming at the rear pillar leaving a too narrow post. I hold little hope of this being corrected. I hope they do fix it, of course.

Sounds like it's coming out in '10 sometime..haven't seen a specific month. I figure I'm good for 3 of 'em, one stock, one stock w/ Cragars or other period mags, and one as a basis for the MCW Biscayne conversion. I have the AMT '66 ht and conv and Modelhaus Caprice also, so that will make a nice little group in the display case eventually.

george 53 @ Nov 8 2009, 12:57 PM)If ya hang in there,I'll betcha they'll pop a convertable of it jus like they did the 65,an it'll save ya the trouble of hackin one up. Of course unless ya like ta do that likda stuff

Yeah, since I have the AMT convertible, I won't hack one up...will wait for Revell to do one... it would be sweet if one of the resin casters did a Caprice or Impala 4dr ht. I have the resin Caprice coupe and Biscayne, I think R&R makes a wagon also.
