rig building, what's the worst part for you?

Recommended Posts

Amt mirrors and frames are sometimes a pain, but for me the biggest pain is coming up with new and creative paint jobs and finding ways to make something different. I'm always looking for different colors. But the best part of model building is the finished product. It makes it all worth it. (Although as my skills improve I'm always going back to update or improve) it's almost a modellers work is never done.

Sometimes motivation can be a real issue. Sometimes you hit that creative wall and cant decide on something and that brings the project to a screeching halt. That was my problem with my next build. Had the parts but couldnt decide on color, how many axles, duals or super singles.

This is the exact reason I have 600 unfinished kits. Adult ADD is the worst

I agree on the motivation bit.

But work...well I was unimployed for a couple of months each year from 1990 until 2009 but I didn't get more done then than when I work full time, so if you don't have the motivation it doesn't matter how much time you have.

hehe, so it seems I am not alone in my fuel tank 'frustration'

and ya, motivation/indecision can be a major player at times, usually when I finish a kit, I look at what I have to see what's going to be next, and will waste 2 hours pulling stuff out, looking it over, then putting it back and wonder what it is I want to build next. then once I decide what to build, I wonder to myself, do it like box art, or lose my mind trying to come up with a color scheme??

thank goodness there is no time limit :D

This is a cool discussion...."Builder's Block" gets me every once and a while, too.....I'm on a build, now, and am in the middle of trying to figure out what load to put on the back of my trailer and what amount of detail I want to add to the truck.....Oh, what to do?? What to do??

Wow, this is a great topic. The worst part of building for me would have to be painting the cabs, hoods, sleepers, etc. "bodies". I'll get the body work all done, sanded real nice, everything is straight, and just the way I want it, then I'll shoot some paint on it and it will not come out the way I expected it to. Orange peel is the biggest thing to try and avoid when painting. I have gotten better over the years, with all the tips and tricks I've learned from friends. I've had cabs/hoods not come out right the first time and strip them and repaint them 2 or 3 times before I got it right! Ahh! It's just like anything else though, the more you do it the better you will be at it.
