Ford's BIG Flathead The "Rouge" 337

Recommended Posts

You early big rig fans and builders would know about this Flat Head engine. It is called a Ford "Rouge" 337. It was the engine that got Ford into the Big Rig markets and was in Ford's 48-51 F-8s. It was based off of the wider Lincoln block and the heads were thicker. Couple of other differences from the standard Flathead Ford engines.

Yes, this is an all new resin engine kit from DENCON Scale Resin Specialties. The kit comes with everything you see here but the Air Brake Compressor. That is a separate piece I sell. I cannot take credit for the building and detail. This was done by my friend, Dave Bell. That is the heavy duty 5 Speed on the back of that. Dave was the one that mastered this engine for me.

This engine is apart of some new stuff that I am coming out with. A 50 Ford F-8 "Big Job" Commercial Big Rig in resin to be used with the Revell 50 F-1 kit as a donor. This engine kit is now on my web site.

I just got my order, I got the 337, the optional air compressor and a Dana 60 rear end (its going to be a front end on an F350). All are very well cast as I have always found with Matt's stuff.

The only caution I have is for those without a lot of patience, pay attention to the delivery times he gives, he is up front that it may take up to 6 weeks and he took all of it on my order. Not a complaint on my end, but I know many people don't bother to read everything before placing an order, then freak out when its not in their mail box 72 hours after ordering.

Thanks Aaron

I am glad that you are happy with your product. Thanks for making that point about the turn around times. I wish everyone who orders from me would read that. I know that there are casters that have quick turn around times, but the thing that no one looks at are three things. Those casters either do not get allot of orders, Have a partner or two to help fill orders or have the money backing them to keep stock. For me I am a company of one. I have gotten very popular over the past year and have been flooded with orders (This is my full time job, too). Last I just do not have the money backing me up to have a full inventory of stock. That can cost hunderds to thousends of dollars to do. That is why every order I get. The product is made for that order right then. So all orders have to get in line. It is the only way it can be done for me. About a year ago, I had a nice inventory built up. Allot for shows. I had to take from that and deplete it. So I have stopped going to shows for a wile.

I have to say that most of my customers have been very understanding, like you Aaron. I believe that over this past 14 months that I have been in business as DENCON Scale Resin Specialties. I have only had one customer that just did not get it and gave me allot of hassles to the point that I returned his money. The one thing that I do promise is that if you have an order from me. You e-mail me, you WILL get a quick reply back. I know that there have been some big complaints about casters not returning e-mails. I will stand up and say that I was one of those back in my Lookout Design days. I will NEVER do that again. Like I said, I only had one of out of, I cannot even begin to count, customers not be reasonable. I still answered every one of his e-mails. So I think that all you have to do is just communicate with people. They will feel allot better about the time it takes, sometimes to produce this kind of hand made product.

So Thank you to ALL of my customers. You are all the best and thank you for allowing me to help your hobby be a little more enjoyable and in turn. Allow me to provide for my daughter and I. It is nice to enjoy ones job.

Thanks All

Matt Conte
