I have several of these kits in my collection and it has always been favorite of mine ---

(I reviewed this kit last year --- here is the link to that review ---)

http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=76440&hl=duntov

This is a pretty standard build with a mild rake (kit drop-axle is sufficient for this one)--- detailed kit flat-head--- new dual exhaust system from 3/32 styrene tube --- color will be black --- progress to date is shown below ---

Stance with the kit supplied drop axle and Modelhaus #480 wide whites ---

Door details ---

Scratch built handle --- from flattened, curved and polished aluminum .032 rod ---

I retained the cast on handle boss and drilled a hole in the center for the new handles---

Chassis with new exhaust -- and added header pipes fused to frame sides---

New Splash plates, NBW's and retainer strips --- the header pipes fit flush against the

cast on kit exhaust header on the engine -- no glue or tabs used --- they tuck in out of sight!!!

Engine, interior and first paint shots in the next update ---

Update on interior -- paint --- engine:

Here are the subsequent update photos on this car:

The interior is stock from the kit -- painted and a scratch built floor shifter added (no quadrant --- you can't see it anyway!!!!)

The engine --- detailed with some parts box items added to the basic kit flat head --- no sense in getting carried away!!!

I think it looks pretty good as it sits ---

Now for some paint --- this is Tamiya Black straight from the can ---

Laid down in several mist coats with 15 minutes between and a final wet coat ---

No rubbing --- shinny as is ---

You can see the scratch built dual exhaust extensions in this shot -- kit beauty rings and hub caps suffice again ----

Next time I will add some BMF work to the body --- I had to repaint a section of the hood that had a few blows in it so when that cures I will add the BMF pics to this thread ----

Later

as good as the Revell kit is, i'd rather build the AMT version as you're doing. matter of fact, i've never finished ANY of the several Revell versions that i've started.... but i've done a bunch of AMT's.

BTW your version is quite convincing. deep shine....

Thanks for the comment ---

I have built the Revell kit once and have two more in my collection to be built --- I like them OK but I am with you --- I have enjoyed building this AMT version over the years (I built one when it first came out!!! --- ages me a bit!!)-----and I have several variants in my display case --- all are favorites --

I find that with the AMT kit a little "slight of hand" goes a long way----

I got my Revell build up out of the case last week to do a comparison --- and dropped it!!! So now it is a rescue case!

Here is an update on the BMF work --

I got the hood repaired and finished the BMF work -- with one small repair still to be done -- there is a minor mis-registration on the drivers side hood to cowl area in the BMF --

See results below:

ScreenShot20141219at3_09_15PM-vi.png

Next are a few small detail areas --- side view mirror, wind wings, wipers, door handles and windshield pillar and license plate---

I should wrap it up after those are installed--- (I removed the cast on wipers and will add some photo etched pieces from my collection of HO scale railroad diesel locomotive details --- should be interesting) ---

One additional tip =====when working with black cars --- I use a .005 Micron pen in black to repair fine pin holes and miniature scratches in black paint. This is good for detailing as well --- they also come in red and blue.

Conversely, I use a 000 brush and silver paint from a DecoColor calligraphy pen to touch up chrome and BMF dings ----shake the pen and press the tip on some masking tape to extract some paint--- dip the brush in it to repair sprue marks and dings in the BMF.
