Bruce Goff Posted July 3, 2007 Share Posted July 3, 2007 Hi all, this is my first post here, I was directed here by someone over on the Armour modelling site that I'm frequently on, I was looking there for some input and help on detailling this rock haul truck, particularly on the 16v Detroit Diesel engine, I can't find any pics of the top to see the lines and linkages. I'd also like to find some pics of the hydraulic and air lines that would be visible with the box raised, I've completely replaced the hydraulic lift rams using styrene tube and card , as the kit supplied parts were all twisted and warped. This truck had been started by my stepson when he was young, and I had to tear it down some to clean it up, he had done a lot of work on it with an over 300 piece kit, he was never able to finish it, now I need to do it up right. This vehicle is being weathered to appear as a 1971-73 working vehicle in it's present day state, so there is a lot of rust, dust , oil seal leaks, and grease build up on it. Bruce Goff Posted July 4, 2007 Author Share Posted July 4, 2007 Like I say, it's in progress, so some amount of this will be painted over in the final part of blending, right now some things have that kind of "farmer tan" look about it, ie. the cab is spattered and the door is clean, I'm glad you like the look of this so far. I built an original Payhauler about 2 years ago its a good kit to build. Its big and there are a lot of parts. I fitted air and hydraulic lines, there's a lot of them, but they weren't accurate. When I was younger, many moons ago this was one of those kits I always wanted to build. My model shop never had it in and it would have been to expensive at the time anyway. I now have another payhauler kit, which patiantly awaits its turn with all the other projects. Great Work!! Keep us posted on progress. Bruce Goff Posted July 6, 2007 Author Share Posted July 6, 2007 Matt, glad you like it, you must have quite a large storage space for a stack of these kits Dave, it's probably an original kit, I bought this in a local general store around 1981, I think I was planning to do it on a weekend at that time, the price tag was 22.00 Cdn. I think I just never had a place to work on a project that size, so never started it myself, I handed it to my step son on a visit one day, he assembled the frame and engine, and not able to finish, I thought I'd try and get it done. I only want to get the largest lines installed however, once I figure out what's what as far as hydraulic pumps and brake parts are. Thanks for looking!
