Tips for a newbie

Recommended Posts

Hi there i am from Europe and i am about to start building a new scania truck. I am looking for some tips on ways to make extra light bars and exhausts that dont come with the kit. I would also like to put some checkerplate on the back as well if it is easily made.

Here is the model I will be building from

Hi My name is Steven from the U.S. You might want to look at a websight called kit form services they have alot of foreign conversions and accerssories the owner of the company is editor of a truck modeling magazine in Britain If you could get a hold of the old ITALERI accessories pack number 764 they had a 3 3/4 by 2 1/2 inch piece of checkerboard included. Just to let you know. Here in the U.S. our version of checkerboard is called diamond plate. It has a diffirent tread pattern on it. Good luck on you project

Parts pack also had the light bar some other good items....

Thanks very much for the replies guys. I have had a look around that kit form services site and i have been impressed with amount of small detail work that is available but i would like to "try" and make some of my own stuff. As for the italeri packs i dont feel i need all of the stuff in them so i think i will give them a miss.

Is there any good tutorials or detailed descriptions of how people have added extra detail to their models?

Thanks

As far as the light bar, depending on what you have in the parts box, I would find lights that would do the job and those can be found in car kit, especially old hot rods or ask here on the forum and someone might have some for you.Once you find the lights you can make the frame with some 1/16" diameter solder. you roll a piece of it between two pieces of wood to make it straight, polish it with some toothpaste to give it some shine, roll it again, and then with small needelnose pliers you bend your frame to the shape you need. CA glue loves solder so gluing it to the truck is pretty easy. If you think that solder might be too soft, you get the flux core solder and run a piece of crafters wire thru the center if it (where the flux is) all you have to do to push the wire in is run it over a candle (just the wire, not the solder)and it does'nt take a lot of heat to melt the flux.

Hope this helps
