Nostalgia Gasser Inspiration

Dr. Cranky

Recommended Posts

Took a trip to the NHRA (Wally Parks) Museum back in 2009, primarily to see my favorite gasser of all time, the Stone, Woods & Cook Willys. Unfortunately, they were shooting a television commercial there that day, so it was close quarters which made picture taking a very tall order, but I did manage to get these shots (sans flash, as it wasn't cooperating that day).

This thread's been great love the old images!! :D

The more i look at these the more i love them.

I would love to have be around them back in the day.

And to get a ride in one that would be like a dream come true.

I had a friend that built a straght axle 56 Chevy around 1970-ish. It rode an handled like garbage, except in a straight line. But man, did it look cool. I bought a 50 Olds straight axle in 1974. To say the ride was rough is an understatemant. With todays techologly I think this is not a problem, but in the 70's holy guacamole, they were close to undriveable on the street.

Talking about bugs...did anyone read in the new issu of Hot Rod

the reconstruction of the original lightning bug? interesting.

I grew up watching the former lightning bug racing in Puerto Rico

under Diego Febles care. Good memories of that classic gasser.
