1963 Studebaker Avanti

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I'm going to build a 1963 Studebaker Avanti. Therefore I need some help aboutengine (R2) , transmission and chassis.

1. What color should be used for the engine and transmission?

2. What color was the underbody (primed or body clolor) and the chassis rails (black?)

If I remember right the engine is green, but I'm not sure, I have a diecast at home, I will look when I get home this evening.

I'm not sure about 1963, but Studebaker's 1962 V8 engines were black, with light yellow valve covers and oil pan. As for the underside of the body shell, while it was completely fiberglas (as was the rest of the bodywork) a safe bet is that it was primered, probably in red oxide, with just some body color overspray just inboard of the bottom edges of the rocker panels. Chassis would have been black, most likely.

This is from a guy who restores Studebakers for a living,

If it's a Studebaker with an R1 or 2,

everything's black except the orangy red fan, the

orange supercharger, blue throttle return

springs, chrome valve covers and vallet pan,

stainless shields and natural metal color

alternator. R-3 & fours had red blocks and heads
