  1. Yup. I picked up some MCW--I have problems controlling aerosol primers, so I prefer using the air brush--and the Scale Finishes stuff will go into the paint box for emergency use only.
  2. I've used several bottles of Super Primer before the batch that arrived about 10 days ago. It always smelled and acted like a lacquer primer. Worked really well. I've also had great success with Scale Finishes Super Clear enamel. It dries hard enough to polish the day after it goes on. Right now, I'm working on an old Revell '62 Lancer, decided to try Scale Finish enamel instead of lacquer. The paint dried to the touch faster than, say, Testor's enamel. Whenever I work with enamel paints, other than the Super Clear, I let the model sit for a few weeks before I mess with it again. The Scale Finish enamel color is harder than Testor's would be at this point. Not tacky in the least, but still not ready for the polishing kit. Dunno, I consider this normal for most enamels. The latest batch of Super Primer is another animal entirely. It went on sticky and stayed sticky. It was almost like what I'd get if I tried to use Testor's enamel to paint whitewalls on a tire. Didn't smell like lacquer, didn't act like lacquer. Later on today, I'm going to shoot an email to Scale Finishes and ask about this. I don't want a refund, I've done so well with SF product over the last year, just want to alert SF to the problem. Update: Got a reply from Jason at Scale Finishes. He recommends very thin, light coats with ample drying time in between. At some point, I'll give it another try. Nothing to lose since it strips off easily.
  3. Yes! I shot some on a Buick Riviera project I'm working on and had the same problem. It stripped off easily enough but left a sticky residue behind. Took an overnight in the paint stripper and some work with 600 grit sandpaper to get it all off. I've used Scale Finishes primer before and it was excellent. Something's definitely wrong with this batch. The Chrysler light green enamel finish coat is fine, went on shiny, dried to the touch about as fast as any other enamel but the primer is screwed. For the record, low humidity here. About 72 degrees in the garage where I paint.
  4. I, for one, can't wait for the '56 Buick kit. I have a really strong memory of my dad carrying me down the cellar stairs at my uncle's house, they were going to show me the train layout. But all I had eyes for was the half-built '56 Buick kit that my older cousin was building.
  5. I did build this kit years ago, and chopped the top. Unfortunately, it looked like something Homer Simpson might have done. Lumpy, and the chop ended up too extreme because I didn't measure correctly and kept taking more and more plastic off the pillars in order to get everything to line up. The Jimmy Flintstone '34 chopped sedan is just the chopped section from the ZZ Top kit (which I also built years ago, and yup, the roof was a poor fit), so I've decided to build the Thom Taylor kit with the parts in the box. Not going to use the same paint scheme, though. Too dated. I think I can make it look good despite its shortcomings.
  6. Hello, all. Picked up the Thom Taylor Revell '34 Cabrio kit, want to convert it to a chopped sedan. Contacted Drag City, '34 bodies are no longer in production. Jimmy Flintstone lists a '34 chopped sedan body for the Revell kit, but there is no picture available. Anybody seen this? I'm looking for the 2-door sedan, not a 5-window coupe. Open to suggestions from other suppliers, too. Thanks
  7. I had a '71 hatchback, 2-liter Cologne engine, 4-speed. I loved that car. People trash the Pinto these days even though I doubt any of them have even seen one, but it was a decent car for the time. Rack and pinion steering--didn't need power assist--and that high-revving engine. Much better car than either the Vega, Gremlin, or the VW Bug. Anyway, one of these days, I'm going to build my old Runabout. Ivy Gold Metallic. Been looking for the same kit you're building.

  9. Working on the AMT '71 Duster and I don't want to use the Rallye wheels in the kit. Want that plain Jane look. Where can I find a good set of Mopar steel wheels and dog dish caps (preferably separate so it's easier to paint)? I'm not beyond buying an entire kit just to get the wheels, can always use the other parts in the kit for other projects. Thanks!

  11. Thank you. I shoulda polished the Pontiac. So many angles and edges though. The Ford doesn't need it. Doesn't need clear coat either. That cheap Testor's bottle paint cut with lacquer thinner, that stuff goes down so smooooth and glossy.

  13. Ha, ha..no it won't be. Got a Revellogram '55 Chevy in final assembly, ND Miata getting close, two others on the bench. And a model hoard. I'm sure you know how it is.
