Easily the best known driver in the convertible division was ol' Pops, Curtis Turner. Here's two of his convertible division cars and his '60 hardtop with the top whacked off per Bob Colvin's instructions in order to run in his Spring Darlington race that he persisted in calling a covertible event until the trouble of hacking off the cars roof and the rising speeds prompted Nascar to say "enough" and make the "Rebel 300" just another hardtop event.

Oh yeah! Back from when NASCAR was still cool, and the cars were actually "stock cars", more or less...and you could tell the difference between a Ford and a Chevy because they really WERE Fords and Chevies...not the anonymous, identical billboard blobs they are today.

Think how cool NASCAR could be if they went back to their roots and raced REAL cars, like they used to, not the hyper-engineered, multi-million dollar robot "cars" they run today. Real cars, real "cheating" (like in the good old days!) and real bragging rights if your brand won! Ford vs. Chevy vs. Dodge! (and no "Toyotas"!)

Not to mention how much tougher the cars you could buy for the street would be if they had to have the basic ingredients of the Nascar racer built into them. That's why my real '64 Galaxie has lasted this long. Back when "Built Ford Tough" wasn't just an advertising slogan but really meant something!
