Steve Park's 2002 return to Darlington #1 PENNZOIL

Mach2

Recommended Posts

Steve returned to nascar, after his devastating 2001 Darlington Busch Series Crash, for the 2002 Darlington Cup race. This is the WetWorks WW60 Darlington-too tough to Park sheet, white primer, Boyd's Aluma Yellow Pearl with the A, B & C pillare area painted Krylon indoor/outdoor gloss black. All the fun details with a tear drop roof camera made from .060" Evergreen half round plastic rod, the drivers side exhaust made from K & S 5/16" od x .014" wall aluminum tubing cut at an angle and squashed/formed  to this shape. This is the 38th build for 2008 and the last.

Excellent build, I remember his 2002 Busch crash very well. he did it under caution and the just turned left and he got t-boned by Larry Foyt.
The T-bone Busch Series accident was the Busch race 2001. He had a tough time with the steering wheel on the Busch car and was uncomfortable with the wheel and the locking mechanism. His Cup car was fine, just the Busch car he was concerned about. During the Caution grouping for the restart, going down the front stretch, he pulled up on the wheel to check it and IT CAME OFF!!! Before he could get it back on to steer, the stagger in the car turned it dead left and he was T-boned by a lapper coming up very fast to take a position at the inside row. I really don't think Steve was ever fully recovered from it, his speech always seem labored and slurred. A shame, he was very talented, good looking, articulate and seemed to be a rising star. :D
