Are there any Surf Woody type kits out there that don't have raised wood grain patterns in the plastic? I was wanting to experiment with washes in the recessed patterns of the wood parts but all the kits I've seen, Revell 30 Ford Woody for instance, have raised lines in the molding.

Keep in mind that woodie station wagon bodies in general, and Ford in particular, in the day of that Model A, were built from close-grained hardwood, usually birch plywood for the panels, and hard maple for the framing. That meant almost no wood graining showed up, and on a model it would be for all intents and purposes invisible, unless older and discolored by time.

AMT's 29 Woody/pickup has separate one-piece panels for the recessed part. While these do have graining on them it would be quite simple to sand it off, or create new panels from sheet styrene.
