Thanks Tony, yes I did turn it on a lathe. Just got it about 3 weeks ago. Best tool investment I ever made. If I can get a good mold of this I will add it to my product line. Let ya know when I get it done.

...well I finally got the molds made and so far so good on the copies. Plan is to wire up a couple and see how they look, then decide on how many to use. Once these are in place I can start on the ceiling joists and upper flooring. These light shades have inspired me to get back at this.....

Dannyl, I'm new here on this forum but I have to say, after looking at your work, especially the brickwork, I am TOTALLY impressed.

Do you use a Sherline? Or which brand? I ask only because your light shades seem like you started with a big workpiece...

...thanks Roger, I have Taig lathe and I'm very happy with it. I'm still working with it and have a lot to learn. It's one of the best tool investments I've ever made.

..the work piece I used for the lamps is a 3/4" resin plug or round stock I guess you'd call it. I made a mold of different size wood dowels and make these plugs as I need them.



A 3/4" dowel is about 18"s in 1/25 scale. After some research on the light shades it looks like the 16" was the most common, so that's the size of the ones I made.

I managed to mock up a couple of lights shades. Decided to go with 8 lights, two between each cross beam. I was originally going to attach this to the beams but now their going to be hanging from the ceiling joist, which means they have to go on next. With time permitting things could move along here pretty good in the up coming days. Tested the lamp shades using grain o wheat bulbs and found they were too bright, so I ordered grain o rice bulbs. These shades of course will be weathered to look thirty years old when I do the final install. I noticed through researching these that there are a dozen different shades of green that were used by various manufacturers. These appear to be a little dark for Ivanhoe but I think I'll stick with the color.

Danny, I just got back from Canton,Georgia, And my nephew lives in an old Cottom Mill, that's been converted into apartments. They look JUST LIKE the walls in your dio. The same windows, and bare sandblasted brick walls, Yours looks VERY authentic!!!

.....finally made some time for this dio. Got the ceiling joists in place and the lights installed. I really couldn't find good clear photograph's or information on the electrical boxes of the day, but what I did see was that a lot of the junction boxes and fixtures were round. So that's what I went with. The conduit and fixtures on the ceiling will be painted the same white as the joists. Saw this practice a lot from my days in the plant where I worked. The painters, after being tasked with repainting, didn't mask anything, if it was in the area it got painted!

.....the plan is to run conduit from the boxes on the back wall to a main box that will go next to the service door. From there outlets and light switches will be put in once I make them........till next time.....thanks for looking in.............

Every house in my old neighborhood had black pipe and round junction boxes. I t was heavy stuff - like water pipe - not light like the conduit we know today.

The dio is looking very good.
