Alright people, it's time to officially start this community build. It will run until May 30th, 2011.

Under Glass Thread

To start, there will be 5 classes:
FWD compact/midsize cars with either a 4 cylinder or 6 cylinder
RWD compact/midsize cars with either a 4 cylinder, 6 cylinder, or 8 cylinder
RWD fullsize V8
Compact Truck/Van/SUV
Fullsize Truck/Van/SUV

Any questions about where your vehicle would fit, just ask.
You may build your vehicle as either
-a pre-race vehicle (ready to race, not smashed up)
-or a post-race vehicle (just raced, body is smashed up along with other damage).

Here are the rules I've decided on, based on real demo derby rules I've found.

I am going to go old school and use a "57" Ford hard top . Just watched the demo derby episode of Happy Days for ideas. I have driven in Demo Derby's and always wanted to do a model of one.

I have a busted up Olds 442 ( not sure the year ) that I have a body only. I'd like to make this car from my parts bins if acceptable. The body needs to be tossed in the dunk booth so it will be a fresh start.

By the way here is the 442 I'm starting with. It's already in sad shape and I found the chassis. It's in the purple pond now. This shows the body style at least so I'll be entering full size rear wheel drive class.

You must have the USDA (no, not United Stated Department of Agriculture) rules. They outlawed the Chrysler Imperials in the early-mid 80s as they were too well built for anything else running. Dad ran a whole season on a 1970 Imperial with great success. While I would love to build one, I refuse to based on the rules (same reason I will not run a full-size car) of car prep AND for the running of the derby itself. What is this monkey-motion of starting all on the same side or diagonal from one another? What ever happened to cross-pit-back-to-back starts? A short pit; c'mon guys? And number boards on the roof of the car? I guess the number all the way across the doors was too hard to see? Drivers door a different color? Right. I would build one to the early 80s type IF I were to build one.

Just like the real world of demo the sport is fun but in retro you hate to see certain cars destroyed. Same with monster trucks. You sir have picked one that is going to make me cringe
