thanks, I always liked my derby cars to be Mean and Clean in appearance. I think I pulled off that look on this one.

I scratch built the headers , the cage and a few of the other small parts. I like how it turned out. It is my first finished build of the year.

Thanks guys. I have one question, do my headers look ok, I have never built my own before. I spent a lot of time on a Demo Derby forum trying to figure out a good design. They are kind of a main focal point on the car but know one has commented on them.

Guess my Truck'll make the honorable mentions group, she's no where near done, still needs a whole suspension. Might see if I can screw ball one together, but it's not going to have any detail if I do.

Don't worry, I've decided to extend the date to the end of April, since I haven't even really started on mine!

I haven't read the whole thread, so this may have been answered already: I have a Demo Derby model that I built several years ago (based on the AMT '65 Pontiac 2+2) that I'd like to enter, and I'm willing to modify it to an extent to at least come close to meeting the rules that you gave in the beginning. I don't have any "In Progress" photos of the original build, but I can shoot some from my mods if necessary. Is that OK? I have to add several items, repaint the driver's door, cut the 'carb fire' hole in the hood, add saftey chains to the hood and trunk, add the number board to the roof (as much as I hate to do that - The derby I went to last year didn't require them!)...

Also, just for the heck of it, I'm considering a Corvair for the contest, but I didn't see a class for a rear-engined car! What class would it fit into? I'd assume 4 and 6 cylinder compacts, but as I recall it specifies front engine.

Haha never considered a rear engine vehicle when I wrote the rules. I suppose you could enter it in the compact class, but I'm sure you'd want to reinforce the front end on it. As for the Pontiac, sure thing!

Well so far, so good! The Pontiac is nearly finished already; The updates weren't as difficult as I thought they'd be. And thanks to my new friend Randy Webster ("Fanofratfink"), who saw that I was looking for old Corvair model stuff in the "Parts Wanted" forum and graciously sent me a box full of Corvair parts he wasn't going to be using, I have a great start on my Corvair project! I used a 1969 Monza body he sent me that had some custom work done on it some time in the past. I chipped and sanded off the old putty and worked down a few glue marks, then had at it with my Dremel, hogging out the wheel wells. I've decided to make this model a sort of "Theme within a theme": I'm building it to represent my "Junkyard Refugee" 1966 Corsa coupe model as it appears a year later, on the way to giving it's all on the "Field Of Valor"! To do that, I'm copying some of the modifications I made on the first model, like a couple of patched rust holes in the floor. I did away with all of the Monza badges and other trim, then drilled out the mounting holes for the Corsa badges and remaining trim. Inside the car, the passenger door is painted maroon to match the junkyard replacement door the original model has on it. The patch in the floor of the driver's side footwell looks like it's just a piece of sheet aluminum underneath but, when the carpet was pulled up while stripping out the interior... Surprise! It turned out to be a stolen road sign! I took a Corvair dashboard and stripped it of everything that wouldn't be necessary in the Derby, such as the instrument panel, glove box and it's door, radio, and ash tray. I also fabbed up a simple 4-point roll cage for it. This post shows the completed revisions on the Pontiac, as well as some shots from it's "In The Works" phase.

(I finally figured out how to post full-size pictures on here, so no more thumbnails from me!)
