Dedicated to scale models of racing cars that Dan Gurney drove and built from his early days as a California hot-rodder, through his long career racing sportscars, Formula One, stock cars, Can-Am, Trans-Am and Champ Cars as a driver and constructor

Here is my version. I think Dan drove this one for a couple of races in 1970, and then Swede Savage drove for the rest of the season. This one won a second place award at a recent model contest.[img]http://[/img][img]http://[/img]

Love both of these cars.

I've always been a keen Dan the Man fan collecting some of his race cars as slot cars (both 1/32 & 1/24), and now I'm collecting info in an attempt to build some 1/24 cars that are not readily available.
This is one I did about 10 years ago.

Please go easy on me. It's not all that accurate as I was returning to slot cars, and in slot car mode as opposed to model building mode.
Things have changed now, and I'm more interested in the model building side, so I'm going to re-do this one to be more faithful to the real thing.

Hope it's OK to post this here, as it seemed appropriate.

Can anyone point me to good links (or share photo's) of Dan's Galaxies?
I found this one for 63 Galaxie chassie #C3HM10004, and looking for more of the same.

TIA.
:)

Thanks Guys for posting the photos of your Dan Gurney racecars. I like them all.
I know there has not been any activity on the Dan Gurney Scale Race Car Forum http://groups.yahoo....yscaleracecars/ since I completed the Deltawing model but there is a lot of info that was previously posted. I am hoping to complete my Ford GT MKIV before the end of March and then get started on a new Dan Gurney project.

I'm collecting info to put Dan's 60's Galaxies together, and trying to identify the right colors for the 66 #121 Harvest Motors Riverside winner.
At this stage, I'm thinking it's Guards Red over Wimbledon white. I first thought it might be Rangoon Red, but not sure.
Can anyone confirm or correct me on this?
TIA

Hi Steve - I am going to ask a friend who built a model of Dan's 66 Galaxie for the colors he used.
You are obviously a slot car guy. I am going to an event this weekend that has a preliminary race using only Monogram 1960's stock cars supplied with your entry fee. I have requested Dan's 63 Galaxie. We will be racing a 6 lane replica of the Suzuka F1 circuit.

Here's one I did many years ago (when the internet was just a baby). I only had a couple of color photos to refer to, so I just used some Testors enamels and went for an "about right" look. Most of the photos I've seen suggest a brighter white than Wimbeldon to me. MCW lists a color (#2067) for the red roof, but nothing for the white.

I've built several Dan Gurney cars - after Jim Clark he was my favorite driver when I was growing up. Some of them I've shown here before. Below is a link to the album - I'll post pics and more details when I get time.

Phil, thanks, that would be good.
Sounds like a fun event. Hope you shhare some piccies somwhere.
I didn't know that Monogram did a Gurney 63 Galaxie.
I know of the white 63 Fred Lorenzen #28, red 65 Gurney #121.

Looking good Steve.
Nice collection of Dan's cars.
I think the #2067 is listed as Guards Red, and I was just thinking that they may have just got a factory Wimbledon white then squirt the red on the roof.

I was hoping that the roof was a metalic red, and thinking of Tamiya TS-18 Metallic Rec (but looks a bit light) over the Tamiya TS-26 Pure White.
So still trying to get my head around which ones are best.

Right you are about the slot-car being the 65 Galaxie but I would still like to race one of Dan's cars!! Not sure if they got completed in time but I was involved in painting 6 1/24 Scale Auto Porsches for an IROC race at the same event. I will be taking photos and will post a link under the scale racing heading.
