It's one of those resin '69 Impalas that Dave [Model King] Burket's been selling.

Paint's gonna be HOK candy Oriental Blue over a white pearl base with a white vinyl roof.

White interior with light blue dash and carpet.

Astro Supremes [Torque Thrusts] from the donor '70 Impala with pin whites will be the rolling stock.

Just happened to find a matching grille/bumper in a odds 'n ends box at NNL East minutes after I bought the kit. Just what I needed for the hideaways ,, so it must have been fate. LOL

This could be interesting...

I didn't realize someone was re-popping the '69 SS. Definitely a good thing to know.

I'm not familiar with the original kit...I'll take that to mean you had to cut up one of the grilles to make the headlight doors because the original '69 grille was an open headlight version? If so, tremendous job on the conversion. Looks great!

Yes, exactly Mark. Really, it was pretty easy to do. I just cut away the grille from the second peice, trimmed the grilles to fit in the cavity where the headlights are, thinned them down and glued them in. Super easy, took about 15 minuts.

Those old Model King resins are not too hard to work with. It takes a little grinding and test fitting, but they do not come out too bad with a little work.

Looks like there's a little flash to clean up... :) I like what you've got planned. I'll be keeping an eye out.

I like what you are planning on this one, Steve. I have an old built-up '69 MPC Custom Coupe to re-do, as well as a promo Convertible with no windshield header (for now), and a Model Car World '69 SS427 Sports Coupe to work over. I am currently working on a Model Car World '69 Biscayne, which I have to prime, paint, and assemble. I already have a '69 AMT SS427 Sports Coupe built.

Got most of the flash cleaned off. After a coat of primer applied and sanded mostly back off I can see what needs attention before paint. I also sanded off the emblems , they'll be replaced with photoetch. There's also a couple bubbles to take care of along the bottom. I super-glued in the rad wall for structural stability during the rest of the bodywork and paint.

As a yearly, this was the very first model I did with my dad when I was 5. I may have to relive my youth.

Steve, that one is coming along pretty well. I had one of the originals back in 1969 (Xmas present from Mom), and it looks like that that one was popped off of an AMT kit. I have a AMT kit built up, a Model Car World Resin '69 Sports Coupe and Promo Convertible in line to be worked on, and a MPC restoration under construction. At least the more common AMT '70 Impala will yield the chassis, drive line, glass, and other assorted bits. I bought up several just for that purpose. They are a little hard to come by right now.

Steve i've always been a big fan of your builds ! Sometimes you build super cool cars but i can't relate to them TIL NOW ! 69 is my most wanted Impala . I love the shape of the bumpers and the flow of the body over the 65-68's ! And dude now i have to cut up 69 grill's so i can have the right looking hide aways ! Here's the 3 i have but if you can see i have a OG CUSTOM hide away bumper but it looks nothing like a real 1 ! Yours turned out great .

I bought the yellow hood on ebay thing it was a plastic 1 but its a resin and needs some work and i was thinking of cutting 1 of mine into a drop top but they just been shelf LOL.

Maybe your build will push me in gut and get my hine end to start on them .

Thanks David. I really enjoy seeing your builds too ,, especially the lowriders.

I like that custom front. Think I'll probably do a similar custom grille for the bumper unit I cut up, get one of those resin '69 hoods and use them for a custom based on the way more common '70. Should be easy enough to adapt the front of the '70's fenders to take the parts.

Digging this build already. Where can I find this kit? I have always loved the 69 but I just can't bring myself to drop upwards of $150 on a kit just to start cutting and building.

I picked mine up from Dave Burket [Model King] at NNL East a couple years ago so I'd try through him. A couple other on-line venders sold them too like Model Roundup but I think they're out of them but it don't hurt to check.

Happy hunting though Phil.

Phil,

Why didn't you ask me? Model Car World does a resin body of the '69 Custom Coupe which is actually pretty good. You will have to have the bumpers chromed, and get a '70 Impala for the chassis for a direct drop in, or a newer tool AMT '67 if you want to get more detail out of the chassis with a little more work.

I recently built a MCW resin Ford kit, and I must say the casting was nice. IIRC, he has a few obsolete Impala kits.

Steve, you really sparked my interest on building either a 68, or 69 Impala. I have every Impala kit, (except a 58), that was cast in plastic. I do not have a 68, or 69, due to the price. I really wish some company would re-tool the 68 & 69 Impalas that will not cost an arm & a leg.
Even the resins are a bit pricey. It was nice to see the 66 was finally re done, by Revell.
