So Doctor Cranky, who is working on way too many project, goes to the magazine stand and finds the work of Nate Greco in a hot rod magazine, and paging through the selection of Mr. Greco's drawings, he stumbles upon a piece called "What A Drag," and BOOM . . . the Doctor's imagination takes off running . . .

By the way, if you want to get an eye-load of great ideas, please check out Mr. Greco's gallery at his website: http://www.disturbin...iscography.html

In the meantime work has begun on a loosely based project that combines a Hasegawa VW Panel Pick Up and, of course, one of my favorite kit's the John Mazmanian 41 Willy Gasser . . . and the rest is just pure fun and styrene addiction . . .

Mind you EYEGORE has been working feverishly through the night at gathering the parts . . .

The 41 Willys chassis was modified in order to have the VW cab fit right. The cab went through a four scale inch chop (approx.) and some of the panels reworked so that it would sit slightly lower, wheel wells modified to fit big meaty slicks . . . etc . . .

I am departing from Mr. Greco's original concept because I want to use the Willys engine (one of my faves) and besides I did not have any VW engines around). I think the model is going to look CRANKYFIED enough after I am done.

Again, I am not COPYING the original. I am just going to do my own thing . . .

Stay tuned in for more Lab-RAT-ory FUN!

Yes, I think this one is going to be slightly over the top! But it's going to be loads of fun.

Bob, I don't know Mr. Greco personally, so I don't want to upset him by violating his copyright, so the best thing I could do it tell you to check out his website:

www.disturbingthegrease.com

The title of the illustration is "What A Drag"

Also, those of you who will undoubtedly go crazy over the illustration are more than welcome to build your own. I'm just doing my own thing with the influence, but if you want to be true to the illustration and have a few VW engines laying around, you can have a blast with it.

Thanks, Dave . . . would you believe that I bought the magazine yesterday afternoon and have not stopped working on this thing since I decided to build it. That's the kind of insanity EYEGORE loves about Doctor Cranky. When he gets a project under his skin, he glows with styrene addiction! LOL!

As far as I know, I'm also going to depart from Mr. Greco's color scheme, and I don't know if it's going to be shiny, or you know, GUNKED UP!

I am also not going to go crazy overdetailing, but you never know. I am planning to keep it simple and let the model speak for itself.

Yeah, that's my plan and so far I'm sticking with it . . .

After a bit more tinkering, this one is headed for primer . . . please stay tuned in for more.

Oh, I forgot to tell you (it's one of the first time this happens to me opening a Revell 41 Willys): I was planning to use the John Mazmanian front tires, and when I went to put the rims in one of the tires was all cut up and mangled.

Unfortunately, I don't have any more of those, but I replaced them with the regular Street Rod version. Needless to say I was a little bit more than miffed.

Neat project Virgil!

Isn't the cab at the wrong end of the frame though? ;) :o

For a minute there Doc, I thought you were making a Back-Up pickup type of wheel stander. I like this even better. It wouldn't hurt my feelings if you tried to duplicate the paint scheme of your collaboration on the panel truck and airbrush trailer. You know, the one I threatened to tie you to the back of ??

Have fun Sir Crankyhead.

Joe, I just might do that, although I'm also thinking of going with green. This thing is looking more and more like a bull frog! LOL!

Of course, just when I was making progress with the primer along comes the rain . . . I think I have to do some research on the engine here a bit.

Speaking of engines, I wonder if some of your generous spirits could help me out with the engine and the transmission.

I need reference pictures preferably of gasser engines you've built that can show me how you've plumed and wired them and also transmission work when the whole engine is outside of the body . . .

Can you help a styrene addict out! Thanks in advance.

Thanks, John, here's a question for you. How do people plumb and wire engines and transmissions whey the engine is so far away (like this) from the cab?
