I had contacted Round 2 and asked about the name change. The response said "it's a legal reason why, and we're not at liberty to say more than that."

It makes a bit more sense now.

Thanks, kinda figured it was something legal, darn lawyers gotta get a piece of the pie, or should I say they take the pie and leave us crumbs !!!! Lawyers and politicians, put 'em a boat and sink 'em all !

By 'box' stock' I assume you mean as it appears on the box top with the decals?!

This kit can also be built as a plain Ford van.

Opps. My bad Michael, yeah box top stock, with murals etc but with some other period correct wheels instead. ;)

Another great reissue from Round2, happy this one back.

Made it back in '77, long time gone, "vanished" under the Matchbox years in the early 80's (nearly 30 years).
Love the Steve Wlazlo typical 70's boxart  Great work Round2.

..."6 Wheeler would also be nice! ;)

Hey Guys,
Does anyone know if there was a "kit" or resin version of the outward opening side doors as shown on Jon Cole's photo below(thanks Jon)?
http://images52.fotk...scan0004-vi.jpg
One of the first medic units that I ran on was a short wheel base Ford Econoline van. I am trying to put my hands on the photos... Having just moved, I fear that they are in storage...

IIRC, all the AMT and MPC Ford vans of this generation ('75+) were sliding side door models. Never seen anything for them in resin. As far as parts, I'm trying to find a suitable set of steel wheels to do a plain commercial version.

Kris Morgan (MAD) has resin Ford Truck wheels with the hub caps molded on available on his website. I am planning on getting a couple of sets for the two vans I have.

I finally ordered one of the Phantom (et al.) van from my LHS today !

I must admit that I was , shall we say , less-than-happy with its cost ; and I was "displeased" that I had to freakin' order the darned thing !
I realise that the stores have to keep in-stock the items which'll sell at a quick turnover rate (it is a business after-all) , but still I wasn't happy about having to wait ...

Never-the-less ...

Does any-one have an original brochure for the 1975 Ford Econoline ? I'm hoping to find interior colours more than paint colours (it's going to be a mild custom ; probably the kit's decals and the side pipes , but with the stock grille and wheel covers).

Also , I would like to see some of my fellow members' builds of this kit (or any of its predecessors) .

Will keep y'all posted :)

John,

You can try this link below. It isn't a brochure but it does provide a list of the interior colors.

John,

While it is great to support the LHS, I have found it is often easier to go online and order what I want if they don't stock it locally. I bought one of my Vans from Tower Hobbies and used their free freight special to get the kit delivered to my door.

They are always running specials and their prices aren't bad either.

I can't believe that this thread is already one year old (20.10.2011) !!

Well , I finally got the Phantom / Vantom today ( I'd ordered it about two weeks ago from my LHS ) , and am duly impressed with its contents ; the smoke-tinted custom windows and the restoration of the factory-stock parts are nice additions .

I grabbed a can of Testors' Inca Gold "one-shot" paint for this build ; first time trying this paint ( I buy almost exclusively Tamiya TS paints ) .

Still need to buy the Daffy Duck ( or what-ever it's called ) Chevy Van , too . I'm as happy as pie about these reissued vans !

I just bought the kit, and I'm really suprised by how well the body is molded for such an old kit- very little flash, and the mold seams were nothing too terrifying either- no signs of misalignment or anything. Getting it ready for the first coat of paint took all of about fifteen minutes.

Chuck, How will you be building it? As it appears on the box? Something different?

Mike.

Haven't quite decided yet. It'll be painted a burnt metallic orange with a flat black hood. When I was a kid I had a Hot Wheels Van called 'Baja Blaster' or something like that, and it was done up in a similar color combination. So that part is decided on. I might build it out of box with the optional Jackman wheels, or I might go all the way and make it look like the Hot Wheels van- brush guard and winch up front, lifted, and with big off road tires on it. Not sure which path I'll take with it yet- guess it depends on how ambitious I want to get with it.

I started the engine on mine a couple days ago. Just glued the block, heads and oil pan together so far but I did notice something ,,,

The distributor cap is dimpled to drill out holes for wires. I thought this was something new but when I checked my 35 year old original it was the same! How cool is that ! B)

I checked my little brother's stash (he's 17,special needs/mildly autistic),he got all of my old HotWheels from the 70's/early 80's. I found a "Baja Beast" van, surely a variation of the one you're talking about (fits the description, but since he brush painted it....),I remember playing with it with my cousin (because he wanted that one,LOL,and I wouldn't share...hey,I was 5 or 6 :P ).

Just picked one of these up this week,it'll be awesome to get a chance to build it,I was a bit young the 1st go round (born in '73). I'd love to see a LWB 4x4 window van,my Dad had a '78 retired VDOT (in all it's glorious orangeness, hahaha!) E250 LWB 4x4 when I was a teen. I learned to drive on his then new '88 Mustang LX hatch 5.0L,but vividly remember hauling Yamaha's to the moto-track as a teen in the van. +2 on rereleasing the Doge vans (Caravan included) :D

I didn't notice that until you pointed it out. A nice touch, but sadly in my particular kit the distributor seems a little short shot... I've only got three of the dimples.
