Is there a such thing as slot car racing in 1;25 scale? Is it a popular enough scale to do this and there any way of getting a hold of things like motors, wheels, tires etc?

Strictly speaking it's 1/24 scale. And yes, it is very popular.

Sorry for the drift Justin, and yes, 1/24 or 1/25 scale slot cars are popular.

Probably not as popular as the booming 1/32 scale market at the moment, but the larger 1/25 scale is more the traditional scale from when many of us boomers were racing on commercial tracks back in the 60's hey day.

There are plenty of places where you can get parts, including ebay.

If you're old like me you went through the slot car craze of the 1960's when there were 100's or 1,000's of 1/24-25 slot car kits on the market. AMT, MPC, Cox, IMC etc all had big lines. And AMT just issued 4 new 1/25 slot kits.

I have one of the new AMT slot car kits coming. Soon as it gets here I plan to do a review and build up thread here, on Slotblog.net and Slotforum.com. Yes, it is 1/25th scale. Or 1:25 as they say in yrrup.

1/25 scale is still popular but not a growing hobby. It primarily exists where a surviving track is located. The fact that it requires such a large track surface is why home sets are rare and explains why 1/32 is so much more popular.
If you want parts in 1/25 scale, there are plenty of on-line sources including Professor Motor, Electric Dreams and others. Best thing to do is join one of the forums I mentioned above and read, ask questions, click on the advertisers and get to know the hobby before spending your hard earned dollars.

Mainly a drag racer like old school gassers, altered, T/F's and funny cars. Maybe a few race cars.

Slot Drag Racing is a bit less popular, and much more specialised, with most racers running vacuum formed bodies.
But there are a few out there kit bashing kits and resins for the strip.

Parma make drag chassis that can be used under either vac form, or kits.Parma Edge
To this you can bolt a wide range of motors, gears, wheels/tires etc.
Motors can be had for around $10~15, to many hundreds if you want to peel the paint of your model.

There are a few manufacturers of great looking wheels/tire combos, and Protrack have a good selection;

i'd be soooo tempted to put up a track around the upper end of the walls of my living room, with a slight bank and set to run at "idle" speed just for running cars like model trains..... one lane going one direction, one going the other.... hey... that would only take an eight inch wide platform......

Yes, that picture is correct.
That "set screw" for the ring gear makes me cringe.
I added aftermarket braids because I muckey-mucked the kit ones.
Lots of small things need to be done.
Friend said today to use aluminum tubing for the spacers for the axles, instead of the black plastic tubing.
Need to get some bearings, better ring gear, and of course, some wide monster rear silicone tires and matching rims...

Looks like that chassis could be adjusted to work under just about any 1:25 or 1:24 body.

Gregg, currently Parma makes and sells the best quality Crown Gears made for 1/8" axles. Only problem.... they are cast only in PINK! (I dye all mine with Rit dye)

My favorite parts house btw is NCP.
