The sidepipes originally had "L" bends which allowed them to connect directly to the header's collector flange:

Have the current kit's sidepipes changed?

Other than the wheels (I'd much more prefer what your's has) the tree apears to be the same. It just doesn't apear as though the the pipes and cast manifolds will meet like they're supposed to.

Does the kit no longer include headers, like so?:

:( I guess that's why there's a new exhaust system in the kit.

Could be, that part of the kit did appear newer. At least with a little styrene rod or tube it can be made onto a dual outlet with rear exits on opposite sides of the van then.

If you have a chance, please post some pic of the parts, as I'd like to see all the exhaust system parts, especially the new exhaust manifolds.

The headers on previous issues look a lot like those in the Monogram '56 Chevy, which weren't horrible for the early '80s, but not quite as nice as what can be done today.

I'll do so tonight Casey, they appear to be just plain old G-Van cast iron SBC exhaust manifolds though. Does the older kit have a cat in the exhaust system like this one too?

No, the two headers and two side pipes are the exhaust system in earlier issues.

Here's that exhaust tree Casey.

Funny you mentioned the Monogram '56 Chevy too, I've been looking at that and/or the '55 Chevy kit for parts on this one.

What is the piece above the shocks in your pic, Joe? A trailer hitch part?

I guess we need a Monogram Chevy van kit history now. ^_^

I beleive that part is some sort of trail hitch Casey, looks completely useless as one though.

OK, it appears the exhaust manifolds and the single exhaust system were included in the Van/Trailer combo kit:

Well Casey, I ended up buying that '56 Chevy kit for the wheels and intake/exhaust pieces to use on my van. Any suggestions for a set of slicks to use on the back of it :D

Does the '56 still include the twin turbo setup which (I think was) shared with Monogram's '69 Camaro kit? I'm pretty sure either the '56 or '57 included some ram's hornstyle exhaust manifolds with some very sturdy mounting pins.

How wide do you want the slicks to be? I'm trying to think of a 1/24 Monogram kit with nice slicks, but I think the Pro Stock and F/C Goodyear slicks would be way too wide for a "street" van.

The '56 I bought didn't include the TT setup, but it does have the afore mentioned Ramshorn manifolds, long tube headers, Roots blower with dual quads for the "Stock" N/A and Blower set ups, and 5 lug Turbine wheels. It took a little carving on the tires and trimming on the van's backing plates, but I was able to make the Turbines work with the others, but the backing plates will need to be glued in place now when the time comes to finish it.

The slicks I'm thinking that should work are the older ones that come in the older Monogran 1/24 F-Bodies and G-Body Monte Carlo kits. I know they aren't the nicest ones around but should give one if these vans a look similar to the one raced be that Jarvis fellow.

Those slicks will probably work well, Joe, as I think any 1/25 scale slicks would look too small.

I think the last Monogram '56 Chevy I built was in the late '80s when it was still molded in turquoise. I think when they changed the plastic to black the turbo setup was changed to a blower, the snorkel hood scoop replaced the '78 Z/28 style scoop, and the wheels were changed from Western Bullets to turbines.

Is it just me or are the exhaust manifolds a bit oversized? Maybe it's just the way they appear in the picture.

The whole engine looks big to me Casey, especially next the van's SBC, but things are close enough that it wouldn't be obvious in a va, even if I cut open the hood. It still has the snorkle scoop in the kit along with the Z-28 scoop and you can build it stock still too bny the looks of things, think I'll go mild kustom with this one though.

Here are some pice of parts specific to the Off Road Van version, including the solid axle front suspension, shorter rear driveshaft, transfer case halves, transfer case lever, tie rod/steering linkage, unique front shocks, and one rear suspension lift block:

Eight-spoke, eight-lug chrome "wagon" wheels, which look like either Appliance Mojock or Jackman wheels:
